Vaping Nicotine Free before Surgery

Dang...exactly WHAT are they vaping? I know tons of vapers who haven't experienced any adverse reactions and they've done it longer than I have (18 months).

You should find out if they're really using synthetic marijuana and just saying they're vaping because that doesn't sound right at all and I have a tough time believing it.

Big claim, big proof required. Since pleurisy is usually viral, how close were they?

I talked to the Harvard scientist who did the "popcorn" lung study. He was appalled by the media's mishandling of his study. It wasn't even close to his results. But they want to sell newspapers and general assignment reporters are not always scientifically literate. Too often when they are their editors are not. Not the best place to get health advice.

I love that this turned into a debate on Vaping in general and I still haven't received an answer to my questions.

Several people have weighed in to give you the information you asked about. Having said that, it is ultimately between you and your surgeon as to what you need to do about smoking OR vaping.

So I was told need to quit smoking 2 months prior to my VSG procedure. My question is, would Vaping Nicotine Free be alright? Its only Propelyn Glycol which is found in Iced Cream & Bacon. And Vegetable Oil.

Actually - several ppl offered you advice on it - it is YOUR decision to make on whether you want to do it or not. We are not here to tell you yes or no as we don't know how your body will react to it. You'll have to make up your own mind based on what you've read.

We aren't your parents. We can only offer you our experiences. As such - mine - I vaped before surgery with 6mg and I vaped after surgery with 6mg and I have had as of now no complications from it. But that's not to say that you will or will not.

You've gotten a lot of good advice and experience stories from ppl on here - except fredbear (like @@OKCPirate said big claim - needs proof). No one should tell you yes or no - as you're an adult... and we aren't your doctor or your parents.

Ummmmm...I know I gave you my advice (don't sweat it, keep vaping) and others have as well. So what else do you want?

I started vaping about a year and a half ago, starting out at 5mg of nicotine. I worked my way down to 0mg about 5-6 months before surgery, and let my surgeon know I was vaping but without nicotine. He said it was fine as long as I remained at 0mg, and I literally vaped the whole way to the hospital the morning of my surgery. I didn't vape much after surgery because I was sore and healing, but here I am 9 weeks out now and vaping is fine. The only issue I have with it is sometimes it makes my throat dry, and I can't take a drink because I just ate.

So, you should be fine, but make the information that you are vaping available to your surgeon.

I think everybody answered your question. Vaping 0 nicotine is like vaping flavour, air. There really is no need for you to be sassy. It's not cute. I don't know what your expecting from people who aren't certified doctors. If our answers aren't good enough for you, perhaps consult a professional.

That's how I quit 2 months before my surgery! I gradually decreased the nicotine to 0. The surgeon asked I stop vaping a week before surgery to clear out my lungs. By then I'd lost all interest in vaping after surgery.

Now smoke (and vape) free for over 2 years ;) The vape was the most awesome way to quit smoking!

@@Pi Sano,

This seems like an excellent question to ask your doctor!

Everyone is different, you have to find out yourself.... Smoking is hard to quit so is eating food! So try to do a smoking free day, see how it goes. Actually give it two days with no smoking anything. Remember it's your health and heAling that is important

I didn't vape I used herbal cigarettes I quit now surgery next week but my doctor said no vaping, herbals, weed,Cigars nothing because carbon monoxide and tar.

Not saying "don't follow your docs instructions" but vaping doesn't have CO or tar because it isn't burning vegetable matter. You have to have combustion for the tar and carbon monoxide.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
