Hi all

I am one week post op. My NUT called to say that if I feel ready I can slowly start to increase the thickness of my fluids and although it's not quite the puree stage, it's still things like extra runny mashed veg, soggy Weetbix etc.

I am in Australia, so a lot of the cool stuff from the U.S isn't here!

My question is, anyone been through this stage? Any food ideas? Or do most people just do fluids then purees?

She said it has to literally run off my spoon, so nothing crazy yet.

I have the sleeve but also went through the lapband process in 2007, so I know what to look out for in terms of feeling uncomfortable and not pushing my limits, but nothing has made me feel sick or anything yet. I have so far had things like diet mousse, Greek yoghurt and of course the usual fluids.

Hi! I am 8 days post op and in the "full liquid" stage. I have been eating creamed Soups, like cream of chicken, cream of Potato, etc. I put it in the blender with some milk and unflavored Protein Powder and blend it up real good. That has been pretty good. Also Greek yogurt and sugar free pudding and added Carnation vanilla mix for Protein. So far, it has been goo. Not sure if that is much help, but that's what I have tried so far! Good luck!

I am day 9 and have been "eating" black bean or lentil Soups that are pureed in the food processor. You can control the consistency of them with the food processor. So far, so good!

You could cook pretty much anything and just run it through the blender. Cottage and ricotta cheese are also good. I was eating a baked ricotta recipe that was like lasagna without the noodles and meat. I haven't really been eating anything that isn't a Protein food, so during pureeds and softs I didn't do any veggies or cream of wheat type stuff. I leaned pretty heavily on the Protein shakes until I was on solids. I tried some canned Soup in the blender, anything with noodles was pretty miserable. Beef stews where the best. I was also eating scrambled eggs during pureeds, as long as chewed very well and they were a little runny I was fine.

I know most folks get plans from their surgeons and NUTS, but some don't. Maybe the attached document will help with ideas. This is what I received from my surgeon & NUT and I continue to refer to it as a reminder even though I'm about 18 months out from surgery.

I hope this helps :)

This CV was so helpful. Thank you. I had a visit with the surgeon today, waiting to have couple of tests done then I'll get a surgery date.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
