Swollen feet

Recommended Posts

OK... I'm hoping that someone out there is having or has had the same problem I'm having. None of my docs can explain it...

Background: down 110 lbs. since highest wt., down 70 lbs. since band almost 2 years ago. Basically at goal. Would like to be down 10 more maybe... am at 144. The government thinks I'm ok... ha

SO. This has happened twice.

I had a fill that was too tight. I had acid reflux, trouble keeping food down, trouble drinking a lot. Probably was a little dehydrated.

Got an unfill. Began eating and drinking normally - that is, band-normal, not pre-band normal. But drinking Water, actually able to keep food down. My feet started swelling. Yes, it's hot and humid, but I rarely had this problem when I was heavy, and never to the point where my shoes didn't fit. I started to gain weight. Water or real, I didn't care. I raced back to my fill doc pronto.

Ah. More restriction. Too much, but I didn't care. Almost no food, barely keeping anything down but I didn't care. Lost all gained weight in a matter of days. Feet - normal!!! Ugh... acid reflux came back, and bad. Have to go for unfill.

Went for unfill. Go back 2 paragraphs and you'll see where I am again. Swollen feet, gaining weight. It truly seems that if I am eating food, I'm gaining weight - water or otherwise - and my feet swell.

My regular doc, my surgeon and my fill doc say they've never seen this before. I'm totally perplexed.

Am I nuts?? Well, in this particular situation, 'cause the answer is probably yes... ;)

Thanks for your thoughts and/or comments...

Laura

My best guess is that if you are eating normal food vs. liquids due to overfill, you are likely consuming a lot more sodium. Sodium is in everything it seems. So maybe go to Calorie Counter, Diet Tracking, food Journal, Nutrition Facts at The Daily Plate or NutritionData.com NutritionData's Nutrition Facts Calorie Counter and enter all your food AND Water. See what your sodium intake is like.

I can look at my feet and see how much sodium I have consumed the day before before I ever even enter the info. If I drink a s/f drink such as Hawaiian Punch I can bank on fugly old lady feet by the next day.

So, do you think that it might go back to normal once my body has had normal food for awhile? Craziest thing I've ever seen, although what you say does make some sense.

Thanks for your thoughts - I just want my "skinny" ankles back!! :clap2:

I suspect they will go back to normal if you watch your sodium intake.

Is it both feet or just one? If it is just one that is indicative of a different sort of problem. But really it seems that what it comes down to isn't a matter of fills/overfills, it is the type of food you are eating when you are filled/overfilled.

The older we get the more weird stuff affects us. Ten years ago I could lick a salt lick all day and I wouldn't notice a difference. Today I drink one glass of something filled with sodium and I know I'll have little old lady ankles by morning. It's sooo not fair, the older and wiser we become the easier life should be. Not ankles that hang over your shoes. Heh :)

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
