azsoul 24 Posted July 13, 2016 I am 8 weeks out and per my post op diet I have been able to have solid foods since week 5. I find meat of any kind really discouraging to eat (and I am a meat lover...or was). I feel dizzy and a little nauseous after only 2 ounces regardless of type of meat or how it is prepared. But foods that go down easy with no sick feeling include 4 tortilla chips, 2 Peanut Butter crackers, cheese, fruit, half a Protein bar, etc. It seems like everyone's post op recommendations have been different so it's hard to know what's best. What has been your experience with meat and when did it go down easy? (Staying positive and assuming it will someday). Bufflehead 6,358 Posted July 14, 2016 2 ounces might be too much so early on. Try one ounce and see if that works better. If not, maybe try more protein-rich foods that might be easier to digest, like cottage cheese, Greek yogurt, eggs, and refried Beans. Personally I would stay away from foods like crackers and chips -- those are the types of food that made most of us obese in the first place. And I would only eat fruit if accompanied by high Protein food, like berries in your yogurt or peaches with cottage cheese. I am not a fan of Protein Bars, nutritionally speaking (glorified candy bars IMO) but I realize mine is a minority opinion there!
azsoul 24 Posted July 14, 2016 Thanks. Maybe trying to bite off more than I can chew so to speak. I'll try one ounce. Eating tortilla chips or crackers is just part of me experimenting with textures, flavors and types of foods--I don't plan on making those part of my lifestyle of eating. But I was afraid all solid foods were going to be trouble so I was relieved to find out some things don't bother my stomach at all. I wish it was the other way around (meat going down easy and chips giving me grief). Never the easy way....lol. Christinamo7 4,042 Posted July 14, 2016 I could eat chicken, turkey, ground beef but not other beef or venison right away. and the meat that was not ground had to be slow cooked and juicy. took a bit longer yet for pork to be ok. So - yes try just 1 ounce and if your stomach still complains wait a couple of weeks or try it fixed a different way.
Valentina 2,642 Posted July 14, 2016 Your sleeve may just not be ready for dense Proteins yet. I suggest you crock pot your meat and see it you can tolerate it better when prepared thusly. Then every week, try a bit of meat prepared differently--about 1oz to start with. Beef is usually the last Protein that many sleevers can tolerate. It is the one meat that is never really fully digested--just broken down. Want to try something completely out of the box but really yummy? Crock pot a chicken in diet root beer. Seriously. It is soooooo good. Try it.
