Protein supplement suggestions?

Recommended Posts

Hello friends! I am two weeks out from surgery today, and have been doing great reaching my Protein and Fluid goals. But tomorrow I start the next phase in my plan, which introduces more soft foods, and stops the Protein shakes. I know I'm going to have a very hard time reaching my Protein goals without the shakes. I have heard a lot of other people on here talk about unflavored Protein powder that can be added to food. But there are so many different kinds online!!! Any suggestions??? I would like something tasteless that is easy to add to food, but also willing to try something like a fruity flavor that I can add to my Water....

Thanks in advance ????

I am almost 4 months out and I still drink Protein Shakes. GNC has a 100% whey Protein that is unflavored that I have used some. You might just try different ones. GNC carries other brands besides their own and some of them come in small sample packets.

My post op diet consists of having at least 1 Protein shake a day even after I'm on regular textures but I can't stomach them much anymore, at least for right now. I got sick of them pretty fast. If you're wanting something "fruity" then you could try Isopure 0 carb (if your diet is like mine and limiting carbs) or you could try Syntrax nectar brand fruity flavors. They do have a variety pack on the BariatricPal Store that I got to try. Here's the link: https://store.bariatricpal.com/collections/variety-packs/products/syntrax-nectar-protein-powder-sampler-variety-bag-15-flavors

I haven't come across any Protein that doesn't have ANY flavor at all. Even the unflavored Protein Powder does change the taste of things but Syntrax does also have an unflavored powder that is supposedly "virtually tasteless in food and drink." To me though, it does still have some flavor to it but maybe give it a try.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
