So frustrated!!! Today is my 1 month post op and I've been within these 5lbs for the past 2 weeks!!! Ill wake up everyday and weigh and lose 2-3lbs then the next I'll gain then back..... I'm in the soft Protein stage and started counting calories just to see how much I'm having and my highest calorie day as been 800 most days are 500.. I'm starting to get weary.... I just wanted to be one of thouse people who lost 40lbs in a month.... I do have a high bmi I'm 5.6 and weighed 318 post op, 305 day of surgery, and down to 286....which I'm thankful for any loss I am I just hate that I'm working so hard on my eating and losing slow.....

Losing 40 lbs in a month is the exception, not the norm. I think we would all like that ,but it will make your life much easier if you have realistic expectations. Your body is going to heal and lose weight the way that works best for it. As long as you are supporting it, the weight will come off over time. Besides, losing a lot of weight very quickly can send your gall bladder into overdrive. The painful attacks and potential surgery for that isn't a good tradeoff.

Your weightloss so far is great.

500 calories is really low. You probably will experience slow weight loss until you can get your calories higher.

You don't mention Protein. Getting enough protein is critical for healing and weight loss. What is your protein target? How are you doing at reaching that target. My guess is that at 500 calories you aren't.

That said, stalls and slow downs are a normal, natural, and necessary part of the process of losing a significant amount of weight. We all experience stalls and just about everyone experiences a stall about three weeks after surgery.

I highly recommend you:

1) let go of the idea of predicting your own weight loss and comparing it to other people, and

2) stay off the scale. You may want to weigh infrequently, especially early out.

Just follow your program.

Make sure you are getting at least 64 oz of Fluid a day.

Reach or exceed your protein target every day.

Take your Vitamins and supplements as directed.

Exercise when cleared.

Stay off the scale.< /p>

And, Embrace the Stall

@@Janiegirl1 19 lbs in a month is a great loss! (It calls for dancing in the streets!) Focus on getting all of your Protein and Water, take your Vitamins and up your exercise a little bit (once you're cleared) and you will lose weight. Losing 40lbs a month is unrealistic - so dial down your expectations a bit or you will only be disappointed. The less you eat doesn't mean the more you'll lose - just the opposite actually! Congrats on your weight so far - keep it up!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
