Weakness, fatigue - 4 days post op

Recommended Posts

Hello all! I was sleeved on 7/8/16 and I have been feeling pretty darn good so far. Today though, I have went out and about a little before it got too hot outside and I'm feeling just very weak and lightheaded in general. I put myself back to bed and am making sure to keep up on my Water intake... Is it just the drastically reduced calories/carbs that my body just needs to adjust to?

I definitely know it isn't dehydration (this time) because I went yesterday for a post op IV infusion. So it's been less than 24 hours since I had that. Plus I've been doing pretty well on my Water - 55 oz plus extra water to thin Protein shakes. I've been getting my 60-80g Protein without issue with 3 Protein Shakes per day.

I'm sipping a v8 right now... Maybe I could use a little sodium? I don't know! I was feeling so great. Maybe I just overdid it?

Have you never had surgery before?

It takes a good 6 weeks to heal and feel somewhat normal again. There's going to be good days and bad. Me personally felt worse at around day 3 or 4 after each surgery.

Take it easy and let yourself heal. You just had major surgery!

Lol! I literally have not had surgery before. Obviously it shows. Thank you! It's good to be reassured that it's normal!!!

@@ciciz It's normal to be exhausted after surgery - especially when your calorie intake is so limited with WLS. I would try and increase your fluids - especially if it is hot out where you live (it's in the 90's here today). Have sugar free popsicles, broth, maybe some G2 (electrolytes). Rest and take it easy!

As long as you're hitting H2O and Protein goals I wouldn't worry. You're going to be wrecked from your body healing, even if you don't notice the pain much, it's still a lot of trauma. I was sleeping most of the day for the first week, and wasn't at my pre-op energy level for about a month and a half.

I am 8 weeks post-op and I experienced the exact same thing between day 4-5. The day of and day after surgery I felt you know, like I had just had surgery, but by day 2 and 3 I was surprised how good I felt considering. I went to the movies, walked along the beach, normal stuff. Then day 4 happened. I couldn't even get out of bed I was so depleted. What I can tell you is that is very very normal. By the end of the week, I was back at it and feeling more like my normal self. But I still got depleted easily for the first 3 weeks. After than, I was really back to normal. I actually feel like I have a lot more energy now than I ever did post-op. But that also might be due to the 40 lbs I no longer have weighing me down! Stick with it, relax and let yourself heal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
