HarleyNana 10 Posted December 3, 2004 Had my preop visit yesterday and I was shocked when the DR told me where he planned to place my port. All along I have had this vision of it being lower left of belly. He said it will be under right rib cage . I kept asking him if I was going to feel this when I was sleeping, or trying to sleep on my tummy. Oh yea, Blossom, I asked him what size and he said the 4cc. When I mentioned the 10, I had to laugh out loud to his comment, "Well, you're not that big", so we'll use the 4cc. I asked him. do you now how long it's been since someone said that to me? Suppose to meet my proctor Dr. Jeffrey Allen, Monday, 6:00, am, surgery promptly @ 7:30. It seemed so far away, my the time flies, I will be on my new journey by noon, and Ryan, hopefully, I will find out what I might have been.
New Hope 37 Posted December 3, 2004 Pat, I have a sternal port also. But mine is pretty much dead center. It's a great place to have one. It doesn't bother me at all. Best of luck to you on your surgery Monday!
leatha_g 4 Posted December 3, 2004 Mine was originally located right at my waist, left side. It has since migrated further toward the center of my stomach, thankfully. I have heard of sternals, which are farther up, usually between the breasts, right over the breast bone/sternum. I don't think I've ever heard of the right rib cage... interesting. Also, just FYI, the 10cc band (vanguard) is not simply just for higher bmi patients. It does accomadate them, but many doctors are using them on all patients due to the higher level of adjustment capability.
whippledaddy 5 Posted December 3, 2004 Any port in a storm?
HarleyNana 10 Posted December 3, 2004 Leatha, personally, I think the 10cc is a good idea. I've often wondered/worried about reaching that max cc's before I've reached my goal. From what I understand, the rep from Vanguard didn't impress my doctor and was not very knowledgeable about the band so he went with the Inmd because of the reps expertise. As this surgery becomes more famous, I will be quite surprised if the 10cc, regardless of maker, does not become the band size of choice. Thanks,
Iluvharleys 15 Posted December 3, 2004 My port is just left of my belly button!
nightingale2u 42 Posted December 3, 2004 Mine is on the left about an inch below my ribcage. I used to feel it everytime I moved or especially when sleeping on my stomach... now I barely notice it. One day I was slathering on the chocolate lotion and felt a lump on my left side and thought... OMIGOD... it's a tumor!!!!! LOL... how quickly we forget. Thanks, That's interesting, the Vanguard is actually made by Inamed. It's just a newer product.
HarleyNana 10 Posted December 3, 2004 Wow, I'm impressed. During my initial visit, I asked one of the girls in the office why my doc chose Inmd and I was told the rep story....so I ASSumed when I asked him about the 10cc and said I didn't need that size, it was from a diff manuf, ALTHOUGH, now that you mention it, I think he did say it would be available in the OR if needed. Maybe I should just be a reader and not a participant. Hopefully when I have your experience with the band I will be as knowledgeable. Thanks for correcting me. Mita 2 Posted December 3, 2004 Hi Pat, Mine is located under my rib cage on the right side. Never bothers me when I sleep or bend over. Looks like everyone is placed different I did not know that. Wow interesting
DeLarla 22 Posted December 3, 2004 Mine's in a jar of formaldehyde lost somewhere between Mexico and Inamed's laboratory. Has anyone seen it?
blossom 2 Posted December 3, 2004 Mine is to the left of my bellybutton, too. Pat, with the 4cc at least you will probably have some restriction during your initial 6 weeks or maybe even longer. I will be thinking of you on Monday!!! I'm praying all goes perfectly for you!
Marimaru 7 Posted December 3, 2004 Mine is to the left of my bellybutton, about at the "10:30" position if my belly button was 12. It's right on my waistline. I notice when I am moving around alot in tighter clothing, but it's not pain, I just feel it in there.
