One month done supervised diet

Recommended Posts

WOW I am surprised it is your PCP doing the supervised diet. It was the surgeon who did mine and I was required to follow the high Protein low char diet for the entire 6 months. I also had meetings with his staff as to the type of foods I shouldn't be eating after the surgery, the Vitamins I would have to take and how my weight loss and exercise progress was going. I didn't have to lose a certain amount but they kept close tabs on all the testings I had to have done before the surgery would be approved. I took the time to ask him many questions about the whole process of having my hernia repair, gallbladder removed and getting the sleeve. Also took the time to stop drinking coffee, eating sugar and getting myself healthier so I didn't have any complications. It was the 6 month wait that has made my journey so much easier.

I'm doing my supervised diet through my PCP; she's in the same network as my surgeon.

This is an insurance requirement, not a medical one. She's more than happy to see me once a month for a 10 minute visit and ask the same questions each time, if that's what it takes to make this surgery happen.

@@Jenjen2016 I went to the Nutritionist at my Bariatric Program for my supervised diet. She went over how I will need to eat post-op. Recommended making some changes and getting used to eating properly. It's a waste of time if they're not going to provide you with any relevant information.

I have one more visit on October 19th, and then my PCP submits it to my surgeon's office and they submit it to insurance.

I've lost almost 100 pounds during my six-month diet program. I have completely re-established my relationship with food. I can't imagine going from full-throttle, whatever eating directly to surgery (even with some liquid diet as an in-between). I am SO thankful for having had the experience!

Did all of mine with the PCP as well and totally agree...huge waste of time. I couldn't lose more than 15 pounds or I would go below 40 BMI. I ended up losing around 12 but the visits got to be really painful, especially since I had to drive an hour each way to get there!

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.
