Question for experienced banders

Recommended Posts

I am having my band put in on the 18th July (UK).

I just wondered...2 years down the line, do people still eat the same way as say, 6 months in? food chewed to a mush, very small mouthfuls, small portions etc?

Yep. If I want to keep losing. Don't get me wrong. My eating got sloppy around the one year mark. I was eating greasy fried food and carbs and buckets of movie crapcorn. And drinking wine. And I started to gain again. So I got serious, cleaned up the food, planned and tracked my portions, dumped the alcohol and carbs, and lost what I gained and got back on track. With smaller portions, my band once again felt tighter. So now I have to chew well and eat small bites or I'll get stuck. But don't kid yourself. Eating around the band is very possible and the bigger your meals get the more used to it you get. The good news is that the reverse is also true. I am very grateful for my band and that I learned this lesson early without too much wasted time or without stretching out my insides and causing a slip.

The better I adhere to the rules the easier it gets. The more exceptions I make, the harder it is to get back on track.

Good luck!

The band is an incredible weight management tool. It is restrictive, meaning that the benefit largely comes from it's ability to restrict the amount of food needed to feel satisfied. When properly adjusted, you will typically feel full with a smaller volume of food and then not be hungry between meals.

To get the best result, it works to follow the eating guidelines, eating Protein first and chewing your food really well, then vegetables, drinking Water 30 minutes before and an hour after and eating your meals pretty dry. Avoid liquids that have calories. If your meals are getting larger and your hungry between meals, your weight loss will probably slow down. This is the time to get an adjustment.

Good luck. It's a great tool.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?
