Majority of Band to Sleeve Revisions done in two surgeries?!

Recommended Posts

I asked my surgeon if he's done many in the same procedure and he said yes. He didn't really push the fact that he'd rather do it in two procedures. Like I said I cannot take off work twice.

Plus the fact a leak is a leak. I do not see how it is more dangerous in a sleeve vs bypass. I work in veterinary medecine and have seen many foreign body surgeries (where they are removed either from the stomach or intestines. Some who already have a septic abdomen from their intestines perforating). Same amount of danger if your intestines leak vs your stomach. Yes, I have seen some die too from it. I am more than fully informed. This was one of the main reasons I didn't want the sleeve or bypass to begin with. The risk of peritonitis. But I am more than ready to assume that risk. It is a risk. They are cutting into your stomach and it can happen

I had the band removed and got sleeved on Sept. 2, 2016. I had the band since 2009. I'm pretty sure there was a lot of scar tissue. The surgery took about an hour, I was in at 5 am, surgery was at 7 am, walking at 11 am, and I was released at 4 pm. I believe it's the only way my surgeon does revisions. I think it's more common for surgeons to do it in 1 step now, but I'm sure it has to do with preference and skill as well. Either way works. ^^

@, you have a revision from band to Sleeve and was released that same day? Wow, I've never heard of that.

Yeah, my surgeon does it outpatient. It floored me too when she first told me! lol

I am scheduled for the revision 9/27. My surgeon explained at first visit a possibility of having to do 2 surgeries. If she can do in one she will. I am hoping she can as 3 month wait and I believe my company changing insurance at end of year. Hopefully not much scar tissue. Hoping you get it all in one.

I was revised from band to sleeve in one surgery on 1/23. My surgeon said there was a lot of scar tissue but everything has been fine so far. Maybe it depends on the Dr. My dr is the chief of bariatric surgery at a hospital and I do trust him. I did not want two surgeries but in case you have too, I really felt all my pain from the port removal. Anyone that I have spoken to that has had sleeve only said they felt great the next day and could return to work within a week. Hope this helps.

My surgeon refuses to do it in one procedure. She did note that other surgeons do it in one, but I went with her because I trusted her track record and she was in-network. I waited two months between procedures. It was a pain to take additional time off of work and such and I was pretty disappointed when I first heard about two surgeries. But I'd had two bands, the first 17 years ago, so I was a little concerned about what she'd find going on in there. We only talked briefly the day after the sleeve surgery (saw her colleague for the 2 wk follow up) so I only know that I had to have a hernia repair (hadn't expected that again) and that there was kind of a mess of stitches or something that had to be undone from my band revision seven years ago. I just feel really grateful that all went well. I'm loving being sleeved. The experience is so much different than with the band.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
