Bowel movement question post op

Recommended Posts

I know gross. But it happens. At least we hope. I finally had one yesterday and today. !!!!! Today is day 5 post op. Both times was what I call the "runs" or "watery". Is that normal? Will that be the new normal bowel movement for us sleevers? Lol. Just curious.

I don't think you'll always have diarrhea. I did at first, but now I tend to be more constipated. I have to make sure I get my fluids in and sometimes I have to use a mild laxative. Hopefully you'll find a happy medium between the two :)

Keep in mind that your body hasn't had solid food in days, and won't for days yet. If there's no solid in, it won't really be solid out.

I'm 2 weeks post-op sleeve and have had diarrhea since day 3. I'm very frustrated because I can't do anything or go anywhere. I can't exercise even. My surgeon said call my PCP. So now I'm waiting for test results. Everything else is on track. But I'm getting pretty down about this.

I know it sounds odd, but soon you will yearn for the days of loose or watery BM's. Once you get further out it's going to feel like passing a pineapple.

Start buy benefiber. If you are having loose stool it will bind it together. If you are constipated it will soften it. After a year, I switched to bran Cereal twice a week, but even then I still have to use the benefiber every once in a while.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
