GetBack_095 87 Posted July 11, 2016 Hello everyone, first off.... im a bit discouraged and frustrated. I see everyone having success within days of surgery already losing 5-10 pounds... Im a man, went into surgery 4 days ago weighing 428.8 pounds. As of today i weigh 430.4 pounds. I dont have an appetite, can barely get much liquids down i consume under 500 calories a day. I drink a 100 calorie 11 oz 15g Protein shake everyday, i break it down in 3 seperate meals because my stomach is so tight and i cant get much liquids down. I am very bloated my stomach feels HEAVY having alot of gas and i cant poop because whenever i strain on the toilet my stomach begins to hurt.... (sorry if thats too much info) Im 21 years of age 6'1 inches tall and trying to figure out why im not having the same sucess everyone else is having. Im following my book. Not eating anything thats prohibited and i dont have cravings or even an appetite. Please help... Sent from my SM-N920T using the BariatricPal App
debd80 41 Posted July 11, 2016 (edited) I bet you are retaining Water from all the fluids that were pumped into you from surgery. Try to walk to help with gas, or get gas x strips... Seriously, walking helps so much. I live in a small apartment and I would walk back and forth from the kitchen to bedroom over and over and it seriously helped. I was on only liquids for the first week, and was allowed Protein shakes only if I got my required 50 oz of Water in. Don't try to push the Protein just yet, focus on hydration and moving! The first couple weeks suck - but it will get better!! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App Edited July 11, 2016 by debd80
reree6898 1,164 Posted July 11, 2016 It will come off, try not to stress too much. You are carrying a lot of Water right now from the IV from surgery. Many people carry it for a few days then have a sudden drop in the scale.

Are you getting at least 60 grams of Protein a day? Protein is important so your body will use stored fat as energy. I was scared to poop also, you can get over the counter stool softener called col-rite, helped me out tons! Tommy s socorro nm 12 Posted July 14, 2016 I read as much as I can on here..because I have my sleeve surgery 7/19/2016. I'm excited and a little scared. I'm 48 years old (male) . Don't see many men on here.. I think my biggest concern is the mental part. My family socialize allot when we go out to eat, so it's going to be hard for my wife and kids... we do allot of hunting, fishing, camping. And on weekends I smoke a lot of brisket and other foods . So ya its going to take allot of adjusting... I was @ 328 lbs iv been on my 2week liquid/ shakes I'm 5 days from surgery and weight 306 .... so thank you all for the great info.... Sent from my SM-G930V using the BariatricPal App Welcome! There's quite a few men on the forum. There's a section "The Men's Room" where you may want to post any questions. Your eating habits will change but you can still enjoy food. Brisket will be a good source of Protein once you're cleared to eat meat.
milpreve 38 Posted July 15, 2016 My team said not to weigh myself so I don't get discouraged from the post-surgery weight gain. I did anyway and gained too. I lost it plus more a week later. Get your fluids and Protein and keep walking! You'll feel better as you heal. I didn't poop for a full week, btw. Best wishes! endlessquest 20 Posted July 16, 2016 It will come off...its important to follow the process that your surgoun and nutrionist mapped out. Stick to the diet, get your exercise in and remember that this is a long term process, not a sprit. Sent from my SM-G900V using the BariatricPal App
