I recently was diagnossed with Arthritus and given a presciption of NSAIDS (high dose). I find these do not agree with me. Why do they work differently on banded patients. I don't understand why if the band is outside the stomach how this changes what goes in. ???? Anyone have answers to what may be a stupid question?

Does who gave you the Rx for the NSAID know about the band? Are they liquid? According to the band manufacturer, folks who have had WLS should not use ANY NSAIDS because the pill has a tendency to sit in the pouch and can cause erosion/ulcers. Some folks do do okay with NSAIDS, as anything in this WLS experience, it is fairly individual. Additionally if it just sits there in the pouch, it isn't being broken down in the highly vascular stomach and absorbed into the bloodstream effectively. If a doc says it is okay for you to take NSAIDS, usually you want to not have a full pouch, and you MUST drink LOADS (at least a full glass) of Water to flush it through the stoma. You want to avoid the pills sitting there in the pouch as much as possible.

Different Doctors Disagree on NSAIDS.

ALLERGAN warns against them, because they are a stomach irritant and may increase the chance of a band erosion.

Some Doctors choose to prescribe them anyways, believing the chance or erosion is small, but the benefit of the NSAIDS is large.

Some people take them with huge amounts of fluids, or milk or over-the-counter antacids to prevent irritation.

Some doctors prescribe medications to buffer the stomach against the NSAIDS.

When in doubt, talk to your doctor and pharmacist and explain your concerns.

I have lupus and have been on a variety of NSAIDs. MY Rheumatologist has started switching me to other things, telling me that chronic use of them is too stressful to the kidneys and liver, apart from any band concerns.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
