Newbandster 0 Posted December 3, 2004 Hi again, I was banded on Monday 11/29 and I have been following the doctors orders for the solids. Since yesterday I've been suffering from Diarrhea very badly. Is this normal. It seems like everything I drink goes right through me. I called the Doctor today and he said I can take medication for it like anyone else. It is only me or has anyone else experiened this. I'm scared to drink anything now because I'm not sure if it is the food or just part of the recovery. I'm almost regretting the whole thing. :hurt I'm so uncomfortable. Any suggestions??
Alexandra 55 Posted December 3, 2004 Hi Newbandster, First, congratulations!! Second, yup, this is normal. It seems to happen to some degree to just about everyone at this stage. Think about it--if you're only taking liquids in, only liquids can come out! (Gross, I know.) If you're also having cramping or bad gas, you might want to call your doctor. Some people find they have a new sensitivity to lactose right after banding and that cutting back on dairy products can help. Have faith that it will pass (no pun intended) and once you start mushy foods things will improve considerably. Good luck!!
blossom 2 Posted December 3, 2004 Yes, it is normal!! Take some meds for it, if you need to. It won't last forever.
DeLarla 22 Posted December 3, 2004 OH MY GOSH, you brought back bad memories. I had it so bad that I ran to the doctor. She grabbed her stethescope to take a listen, but it rumbled so bad that she jumped back and yelled, "WHAT THE HELL WAS THAT?" She was sure that I picked up some Mexican virus so she ran every test known - they were all negative. It lasted 2 weeks. But I was glad for it, because I felt that it cleansed decades' worth of toxic waste out of my colon. I felt like a million bucks after it passed.
New Hope 37 Posted December 3, 2004 I was afraid to leave the house there for a few days! Be sure you're drinking plenty of Water so you don't get dehydrated. Once you get on solids, you'll have the opposite problem. Welcome to Bandland!
Vera 7 Posted December 3, 2004 Hang in there New" Again it's normal. If your having Gas pain as well? Try and walk, it will move the gas out and all your internal organs fall back into place! Not that they're not in place but during surgery things do get moved around a bit as well as the CO2 pumped into the stomach.
