SimplySheavon 22 Posted July 11, 2016 I posted a couple of days ago regarding my terrible trapped gas in my stomach after my sleeve procedure 5 days ago. I am now thinking I am getting the gas after having my Protein Shakes which leads me to believe I am having a hard time digesting the whey. My question is, I bought a vegan Protein Powder that is free of lactose and I hope that helps. I was also considering taking digestive enzymes. Does anyone have experience with these post op? I will discuss with my doc at my 1 week post op appt but thought I would also come here for some support. Thank you!
Valentina 2,642 Posted July 11, 2016 support I will give you every day--all day, but advice on what your tummy can handle?---not so much. I can tell you that I am EXTREMELY allergic to SOY, so I had to be very careful when shopping for a soy-free Protein shake. That damned stuff is in EVERYTHING. I know that you have to find a way to get Protein in------#1 priority. Important enough that if you are having trouble digesting ingredients, please call your Nut. and get their advice on what to try. You really, in my opinion, can NOT take the time to try this one and then that one. You need to get your protein in--NOW. I know there's a product out there for you. You are NOT alone in you sensibilities. Others with similar digestion peculiarities have gone before you. Your bariatric team will know what you should be using. Good luck and please come back and post---telling what product you can tolerate and like. You are cared about here and supported. I wish I could help more. daniotra 298 Posted July 11, 2016 It could be the whey, or it could be lactose intolerance. Try some lactaid. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
cindyw41 761 Posted July 11, 2016 Probiotics was recommended for me. My nut team (yes team) said that lactose intolerance is common after surgery but It could get better over time. Reintroduce dairy a couple weeks or months down the road and see if you have the same reaction. Keep a journal of what you eat, especially if you have a bad reaction.
