I am 4 weeks post op. I have already started my daily Vitamins, but I keep getting different answers as to when to start the B12. Some say at 3 weeks post-op, others say 6 weeks post-op. When am I suppose to start taking it? I am going to be using the weekly B12 nasal spray.

What do your post op instructions say? Mine says to start vitamins immediately.

What does your doctor say? That is where I would start.

My doctor did not start me on Vitamins of any kind until I was a month post op. That is because your body has a built up supply in the beginning.

Follow whatever your Dr. tells you but if it is nasal B12 it's not going through your GI track so I would think you are safe to take it now.

According to the sheet one sheet I got it says everything at 2 weeks and the other I got, it says daily @ 2 weeks, Calcium and Iron @ 4 weeks and B12 @ 6 weeks. But the company that supplies the nasal B12 also supplies the rest of my Vitamins and they are all shipped together. I guess I am just trying to figure out if I can start the B12 now so that when I get the next shipment I actually need everything instead of being 2 weeks ahead on some and behind on others.

I took my Vitamins starting next day. My B12 was a weekly nasal spray so I started it a few days after surgery.

My doctor said they put 2 week start date for Vitamins because they assume some people are nauseous or having trouble getting things down. He told me if I could keep things down, I could start them asap. Never has nausea issues so started all the vitamins on the Vitamin protocol right away.

If you were given a B12 shot in the hospital, then I believe you are good for a month before you begin your B12 regiment.

My doctor started me on B12 injections at 6 weeks . My other Vitamins were a stepping process, starting some at 2 weeks, others at 6 weeks.

I think, again, advice varies based on your doctor's recommendations. They all have differing opinions. I'm sure, in the end, as long as you are compliant, whenever you start, a few weeks doesn't matter.

I got my first B12 shot while in the hospital and take it monthly. All other Vitamins I started upon returning home.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
