Post surgery Q - recovery

Recommended Posts

Am I insane to have surgery on Wednesday and go to work Friday? I did it with gallbladder surgery (worked 2nd day after surgery) and a c-Section same way (worked 4th day after surgery).....is it much worse than those? I had a baby this year and have no time to take. Am a fast healer and never took pain meds with 3 sections or post-gallbladder surgeries. Thx

Would not say its impossible, but you will not be yourself for sure. I went back to work in a week thought that was soon. Just have your meds, Vitamins and liquids figured out. Do not forget to monitor your temperature. Good luck!

I am like you and I do not get held down for long. I healed very quickly from my csections and I am 4 days post op from sleeve surgery and could definitely do a desk job. The discomforts are similar to csections. If you have a job where you are on your feet all day... Inwould think twice about doing so. Remember to get your fluids and Proteins in... that has been the hardest for me! Good Luck!

Yup you are loco! I had 2 c-sections and found them to be more painful than VSG. Big difference with this surgery is the liquid diet. You might have less pain but the change in diet can leave you tired and moody for awhile. I was worse at 2 weeks than I was at 1 week. I kept feeling bad until I started soft foods and Vitamins. After that I bounced back quickly and felt great. Remember your fluids and Protein are your priority. Good luck!!!

Neither the experiences of others nor your own surgery history can tell you for sure how you'll feel post-op. Be wise and count on needing some time off. If you do bounce back in a day or so, fine. Even then, take if easy. If "no time to take" is fact, what happens if you do need time? Time without pay? Being fired? If you can't afford the first and the second is gospel, you might consider postponing until you have a week accrued.

I am a quick healer too. I had op on Thursday and was back Tuesday (desk job) but I can work at home so can take breaks. Could you do that? This worked for me.

If I needed a few days they'd give me it, but we are a small company and they already have me paid time off with the birth of my son so I am trying to not take advantage of the fact they're very sweet and supportive people. I'm planning for this and only unless absolutely necessary will my plan change. Its a desk job with a lot of leeway and autonomy (i.e. I can get up and go walk when needed, close my door and work if needed, etc.) It's great to hear some people who have similar healing and pain styles say it's possible (CaitlynT, etc).

I didn't even mention the next weekend my family is moving into a new home. Lol

If you could possibly wait until Monday, that would probably be better.

Is there any work you could do from home over the weekend?

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
