I Have a Surgery Date - RNY

Recommended Posts

Hello everyone, a few days ago, Kaiser contacted me with a surgery date for RNYGB for August 8th. I immediately felt panicked and a little bit as though I wanted to back out, but after some much needed breathing and calming down, I realized that I am on the right track. Pre-op diet will begin in a couple weeks.

I'm realizing that this journey requires a lot of patience with self. Over the past few days, I've really had to give myself permission to be a human who feels emotions and who is sometimes fallible. I'm also realizing that I need to slow things down moment by moment so that I don't become overwhelmed.

Thanks for all the encouragement!!

Dev

Congratulations and let us know if we can be of any help.

Make sure you take a good before photo of yourself so you can compare it with an after photo.

Will do! As surreal as it is, I know I'll need to look back to see my progress!

You got this Dev! I honestly felt the same way. I've had two surgery dates scheduled and have panicked both times. After I switched surgeons I thought to myself am I only doing this to prolong things?? Whether or not that was true, I am much happier and confident in my new surgeon so that's really all that matters.

My surgery date is a few days before yours on August 4th. My nerves are every where, I constantly have to remember to breathe. For me researching helps, but then puts me in a constant state of panic at the same time. I'm hoping that becoming more active on these boards will help calm me down a bit.

Good luck! I hope to continue to follow your journey.

Hi, my surgery was 5/24/16. Tomorrow I'll be 7 weeks post-op. As of today, I've lost 34 lbs since surgery. There will be hard times and regrets but it's completely normal to feel that way. It's all part of the healing. Your life is going to change. You will be okay and when you are 7 weeks post-op, you will look in the mirror like I did and say, you did it! You made a great choice! You look great!

My knees don't hurt anymore, the seat belt doesn't hurt my butt anymore. I fit comfortably in a carnival ride. And I still have 55 more pounds to lose.

When you feel scared, make plans about future you. How fabulous you're going to look and feel. It's worth it. Good luck!

Hi I am with Kaiser as well and was wondering how long the process took from your first appointment to your surgery date?

It took me about 6 months.

Update: I had my RNYGB yesterday. Surgery went well. Things took close to 3 hours, but turned out very good. So far, no complications or complaints. I'm trying to breathe deeply since my lungs are still coming back. I've been walking too. It's tender and tight, but I have been moving! Nurses and staff have been great as well. No nausea/vomiting (I'm keeping my fingers crossed on this one). Dr. Started me on liquids and I kept them down no problem. Heading home from hospital now. Thanks to everyone for al the love and support!
