She's 14 years of age and I believe that she is dyeing. she is having trouble breathing normally, collapsing in her own pee (I've gotten her a reusable dog diaper and some pads for the floor.)

This weekend she's got some antibiotics and it's 'wait and see' if she turns around she just might. But she is 14 and the average lifespan is no more then 15 in britney spaniels.

She's been through my 20's which were awful (I used to self injure, but went away to http://mercymultiplied.com/2016/03/hannah-2013-graduate/ Mercy for seven months in 2012-2013.)

I sobbed into my pillow last night and wasn't able to place why until this morning (when you're half asleep sometimes things are not clear.)

In short she's been in my family for the 2000's and 2010's and it's just hard to see her suffering. Even if she does improve this weekend she's nearing the end and none of my family or myself want her slowly shut down breathing wise. It's inflammation was all the vet said we ran some tests and she's perfectly healthy xray wise and blood work wise.

Inflammation in her case could just be her little organs not being able to function any longer. End of life is difficult in humans and in animals.

It's hard in the sense that I have high functioning autism and she has been such a companion for me. She's a very affectionate dog, and has been able to see my sister's two children up to age one in a sense she got to mother later on in her life there are some funny stories related to the kids (she sat on both of them when they began to crawl and they were like 'wut' :P so they didn't get into stuff that'd harm them it was so freaking cute. :) )

At any rate, I'm sure there are folks here who've had pets pass on and know how heavy emotionally it is.

I am so sorry for you. Yes our pets give us unconditional love, and they hold such a special place in our lives. Please be gentle with yourself going through this tough time. The decision is hard to make but your heart will know when. ((Hugs))

She's a part of your family, pure and simple. To know that your time together is coming to an end is of course a huge burden emotionally, especially since she has been a loyal and loving companion through some difficult and painful times. It sounds like you have given her a loving, safe home and cherished her greatly, and I'm betting she is aware of that. In her mind, she's had a long, full, and happy life, and she gets to be comforted by her closest companion as she passes on. That's the best gift we can give them: to love them completely and deeply and never let them suffer. It seems like such an inadequate repayment for their unconditional loyalty and adoration, but I know for sure that's all they really ever want.

My Sammi has been with me through over a decade of self harm, a suicide attempt, abandonment by my father and his entire side of the family, my mother becoming very sick, and a long, terrifying list of things that come from sickness, poverty, and injury. It doesn't matter that she isn't human. She very clearly loves me and takes care of me, and she's never been anything but faithful and comforting. She, too, is part of my family. She's just family that I adopted instead of was born with.

So sorry to hear about your little furbaby. Love her intensely and stay by her side through this, and she'll know you're doing it and be eternally grateful. I don't know if you believe in heaven, or an afterlife, or a next life, but I truly believe that we will see them again someday.

My dog means so much to me. I work from home and he is my constant companion. I would be so lost without him.

I am sorry for what you are going through, it will get better.

I love my dog so much, my heart hurts for you and your pal. Please take solace in fact that you are looking out for her and trying to comfort her in time of need to make best decision. She has had a good life and one that long (though not long enough right) means she lived well.

I am so sorry! It is always so hard to lose a part of your family. When I first married my husband he bought me a Pekingese puppy for our anniversary which was on Halloween. So her name became Lady pumpkin Pie ala Mohr.

That dog was my 3rd child, literally and when she passed I was devastated. She developed a spinal issue that left her paralyzed. She could no longer control her bowels or bladder and we had to put her down. I don't think I was as upset when I lost other family members.

I cried a lot that first week but as time passes it does get better.

I am so sorry and I hope all your good memories brings you peace. I will be thinking about you!

Hugs!

Oh I do believe in heaven :) and yes pet's that we have be they cat's dog's birds etc. that brought joy will be with us when we pass on as well. A soul has energy and energy is never ending, so too the life after this one.

Proverbs 12:10 A good man is concerned for the welfare of his animals, but even the kindness of godless men is cruel.

another version: The righteous care for the needs of their animals, but the kindest acts of the wicked are cruel.

I've raised, trained and evaluated Therapy Dogs for decades. I know first hand their value within our lives.

Clients would ask me how will they know when it is time to finally say good bye and let their beloved dog cross over The Rainbow Bridge. My answer today is the same that it was many years ago:

"You will know, my friend. When the time is right--you will just know".

If you don't cry when they leave you, then you didn't deserve to have them while they were with you.

Remember my tell you that my S.O. committed suicide the morning of my WLS? Well my beloved standard poodle, Leilani died the very next morning. She just didn't wake up. Through 4 years of therapy, it wasn't until Gucci --my Chinese crested came into my life did I actually start believing in living again.

I'm telling you this so you can realize that yes, I KNOW how important your dog is to you. No words will be able to ease the pain. You have to go through it to grow out of it.

Be kind to yourself and to your dear dog.

"You'll know. You will just know".

I understand.

So sad for you. I'm writing this with my wonderful springer spaniel Zinny by my side. He is my constant companion and I will be devasted when he goes. Thinking of you at this time and I know you will be remembering the happy times you had together. Let her go over the rainbow bridge knowing you loved her. Thinking of you .

Wow, *tears in eyes* thank you guys for the tender outpouring. Words cannot convey my thanks for the support. She's doing a tad better, but she's going to pass by the end of this month I think. she looks up like 'I'm scared I'm breathing fast' I just pet her and slept with her last night. It's funny because she's been living for the three years after I've been home from Mercy to get to enjoy the 'well me' and I know it's a gift from God. I told her last night "Wait for me in heaven and look over the banister, I'll be their someday." Again thank you all for your condolences and support.

@@Hannah83 You and Minnie are in my prayers! My heart breaks for you - I know how difficult this is. Stay strong!

Her passing I believe will be the catalyst for wanting to get a better 'earth suit' as I've mentioned in other posts. More then that my strength comes from God, and this is driving me closer to Him. So, all things do truly work together for good to those that love father God.

I'm a right blubbery mess as I type this out. We had hoped she'd bounce back, but her breathing got harder and harder. I went with my parents to put her to sleep. Went over to the home of the bloodhound I'm watching and got in his face crying. Dogs know when something is wrong, big dog that he is he laird down beside me. I imagine I'll be a mess for a while as far as greif coming and going. It's in spurts.

I'm not a pretty crier, blubber, red face snot bubbles etc.

Again thank you all for the support.

Tomorrow my dad is coming with me to my last pre op appointment. He is wanting me to try natural things etc. and if I'm honest after the stomach returns to the normal size the habits could come back. but I'm a determined woman and it has been about 10 days of not binge eating at night.

In memory of Minnie I want to get well physically. I could care less about the dress sizes, numbers etc. I just want to be healthier for a life lived to the full.

For those that pray, please keep me in your prayers for tomorrow so that my dad will feel more at ease.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
