When do you get on the scale again?

Recommended Posts

Hi All,

I just met my all requirements and it will be submitted to my insurance on Monday (fingers crossed).

What I'm trying to determine is at what point do they reweigh you? I'm going on a vacation and scared to death that I'm going to gain some weight (last hoorah-recognizing that the last 39 years have been a hoorah, hence me getting into this position). I'm hoping that if my insurance approves and go on the 2 wk liquid preop...I might lose anything additional I might add.

If you feel that gaining any weight would be detrimental I would appreciate your POV. Thank you!

I'm guessing it varies by practice. The last time I was weighed before surgery was at my pre-op appointment. Prior to that, I was only weighed at my consultation, which is the weight they used in the paperwork. After surgery, I was weighed by the bed in the hospital!

I was weighed at my very first consultation and then at every single appointment after that. It's just their standard practice. Call me in, take my weight, show me to a room.

Usually they use your original weight in the paperwork and if your insurance requires a specific loss, that will be included on the submission paperwork. Once paperwork is submitted it usually doesn't matter.

On the morning of surgery they also put me on the scale I assume to ensure I had done my part with the 2 week liquid diet.

That is most insurances but I don't think anyone can guarantee what your insurance company will do.

Now, your doctors office may not be happy with a gain either but if you have a pre op liquid diet you will definately lose anything you likely gain.

Just wait until after surgery when you go on a vacation and expect to gain, the opposite happens. I lost 14lbs over 10 days on my first vacation. LOL. I could only eat a tiny bit and we were so active it was crazy. I felt like a million bucks! Oh and I had Gordon Ramsey's Salmon for dinner one night. I had thought I went to heaven and died there. I literally was only able to eat an ounce or so but it was the best darn fish I ever had.

Have a good time!

Thank you guys so much. Unfortunately or fortunately depending on how you look at it, I actually had to gain weight to be qualified because I've been on diet pills for so long to lose or at least try to maintain a weight loss. But what's happened now is that I got into the practice of no longer limiting myself now I find myself giving into my cravings and my appetite has increased tremendously. So my weight is fine right now I just didn't know if we had any problems down the road after insurance approved me. Thanks!

My clinic used the weight from my final appointment with my surgeon to send in to the insurance. That was about 10 weeks before my surgery.

That will never happen to me again. My weight will not define me. I don't need a label. The only time it will be taken is when my medical card has to be renewed every 2 years. It isn't done by my doctor or paid for by my insurance company. In fact my Dr can take his blood pressure cuff and stick it squarely up his pooper. My blood pressure is fine everywhere but in his office.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
