Post op complications

Recommended Posts

I am in Yorkshire in the UK. I do speak to prayer partners on the telephone. No, there is no medical staff that could come out so I am taking taxis to my hospital appts and tests. As long as my blood tests remain decent, my bariatric team have decided that I am simply a slow recoverer. That scares me as I do have a mass behind my belly button and my stomach muscles are rigid anytime I try and stand up. Of course, everytime they touch me, they insist that I lie down, so they never actually feel the problem. Now they have decided my gallbladder has to come out, they are blaming all things on this too.

I pray that with the gallbladder surgery they will be able to see what is wrong and treat it.

Keep us posted on how you are doing.

I really don't want gallbladder surgery until the abscess is definitely gone. Yes, I will let you know. Thank you all x

Gina, I've been following your posts, although I haven't responded until now. I don't have any experience with this kind of thing at all, so I don't have any meaningful advice to offer.

I'm glad that you're going to have more tests this coming week and that your medicos are still trying to figure out what's going on.

Please let us continue to know how you're doing. And yes -- perhaps a local church could provide some in-person support for you. There's nothing quite like actual human contact to cheer us.

Thinking of you!

Ann

Thank you so much. My situation feels so much more about survival, healing and getting back on my feet, than weightloss. I had my surgery 31st May and now am only 28lbs overweight. So I do feel in an awkward position here. I do need support, prayer and any help there is here. Things are just so different here in the UK on the NHS.

Ask your doctor to give you a script for a visiting nurse. At least than you will have someone to visit you and encourage you. You will be in my prayers. Hang in there and look for the positive things that have happened. Keep the faith! !

Why can't you go to A&E Gina? They should admit you if you're so poorly. If you have an abcess you should be on IV antibiotics. Which hospital did you have your surgery at? I'm in Oldham, Lancashire but I had mine done privately. Are you still in touch with your physio? They could help you re: mobilising

To be honest, I don't actually have the physical strength to sit in A & E just now. I have to be back at the hospital wednesday night at 7:30 pm ( I have no idea how I will do that) for a repeat CT scan to see what the abscess is doing. As I will be there already, I may just hold out until after the scan then go to A&E to ask for help for my legs. I haven't slept more than an hour at a time in days, still not getting many calories in. I am simply exhausted, completely done in. I would pay someone to see me privately if I could figure out how.

Gina

I have been reading your complication postings. I am so sad to hear you are struggling so much and don't have the help you need. Others have given some great suggestions and I tend to agree. Losing 66 pounds in 6 weeks is a huge amount. I truly hope they found out what is going on with you and that you start to recover better. Your in my thoughts and prayers.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
