OMG - Surgery is TODAY!

Recommended Posts

I'm so nervous/excited that I can't sleep! Here it is, after midnight, and I'm officially NPO for surgery!!! Except my surgeon has his patients drink "ClearFast" before bed and 3 hours before surgery, so I have that to look forward to in the morning at least! It tasted like a lightly flavored Water, not bad at all though.

I will come back and report on how things go - I would love for others to chime in! I know I've been combing the internet for postop stories wanting to know what it's going to be like, so I'm excited to finally be able to contribute! :)

Congrats!! I'm excited for you! You'll do great and it'll be over before you know it and well on your way to recovery and new and healthy you!

Just remember to get out of bed as soon as you can and start walking......As soon as you're allow focus on sipping your fluids.......Drinking will be your "job" for a while.

Keep us informed on how you're doing and feel free to ask any questions you have.

Thank you! It went really well - I'm home and on room temperature Water and broth until 5 pm.

Boy, people aren't kidding when they talk about the gas pain. And I was thinking of normal gas pain - there is nothing normal about it!! I had to burp it all out - for some reason I was imagining it would come out the other end . My husband has been great at reminding me to walk though, so it's gone for the most part. Now taking small sips is the challenge!

Glad you are home! Just sip, sip, sip, walk, and rest.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
