11 months out & I hate food!

Recommended Posts

I am 11 months out, and honestly, all food just has lost its appeal. Nothing sounds good. I hate mealtime. I sit down to eat and force every bite. I end up barely eating. If it weren't for Protein Shakes I would be sick. Is this normal? Anyone else hit this wall at maintenance phase? I seriously just don't want to eat.

@@SAD HATTER

I go through that in phases. I eat because I will get sick when I feel like that.

Has it been going on all along? If so, you may need to talk to your doctor about that.

If it just started, it could just be a phase and will hopefully get better. If you eat the same things all the time, it might help to change them up.

I actually have to page through Pinterest sometimes just to get in the mood to eat. It helps me.

I hope you feel better.

P.s. I am 22 months post op

Thanks. Its only been like this about a month or so. food just tastes different. Now fruit, I still enjoy. But I keep that to a minimum. I try to vary my diet with tuna, catfish, chicken, turkey, pork, steak, shrimp, eggs, sausage. But after a while I guess my taste buds were kinda like, can we just eat a damn salad? And my colon is all....noooo because salad makes us poo.

I'm about 11 months out and I'm dealing with this same issue! I found that adding some things like pickles, spicy banana peppers, and onions into my food has helped a LOT. It gives me that veggies crunch I've been craving and totally tricks me into thinking I'm eating brand new, interesting stuff. The intense flavors also help a lot. Today I had a whole wheat wrap with grilled chicken, honey mustard, onions, and banana peppers. It was actually sort of satisfying, and that's a feeling I don't often get anymore. Hope this helps! :)

I went through at phase briefly. I'm 1.5 years post op, and feel like I've probably settled down now and am pretty close to normal. I eat almost anything now, but some things I still don't like anymore, like chicken or eggs (used to love so it's weird). When I was going through the the I hate to eat phase, I did a lot of Soups, green smoothies, Protein Shakes, and drank Zeal (whole foods powder total nutrition powder supplement you mix with Water or juice...replaced all my tablet and gummy vitamins I hated) everyday. The Protein and Zeal kept me healthy and I think helped my body to heal and get past that phase. Good luck! By the way, I do highly recommend e Zeal. You cannot buy it at the store, but I order it here. Worth every penny. www.zurvita.com/jjwhitman

not phases, but I have days like that. The last couple of days all I've wanted to eat are Protein shakes and yogurt.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
