Band slipping

Recommended Posts

I was wondering if someone could give me some information on the band slipping. If anyone has had anything like this happen, you may be able to explain. Here's what I would like to know:

What causes a band to slip?

Is it something that just happens, or is it something that the person does? LIke vomiting too much or eating too much?

How often do people experience this?

I know this is specific to each surgeon, but for people who have had a slip, does your surgeon take it off and immediately replace it with a new one, or do they just say that's it?

What kinds of things will you experience if your band has slipped?

I have already had one band slip due to stomach herniation and that was immediately after I had the band placed on there.:think My surgeon took me in for emergency surgery and replaced the band with a new one. I don't think right now that my band has slipped, but the fact that it can happen scares me. I just want to be prepared in case it should happen and I feel that if I know these things, I may be more prepared. :help:

Thanks everyone!!:faint:

Hi,

Inamed/ALLERGAN told me on the telephone that the overwhelming majority of slips were caused by REPEATED, SEVERE vomiting.

They said that the symptoms of a slip are either a sudden, UNEXPLAINABLE loss of restriction, or a sudden, UNEXPLAINABLE severe obstruction.

Other causes of slips are a one-time only case of vomiting, or by the patient eating solid food too early in the healing time immediately after surgery.

In rare instances, repeatedly over-stuffing the pouch can cause a slip.

Food poisoning, gallbladder problems, a stomach virus, being stuck... lots of reasons.

Add to that Bulimia, not chewing well enough and chronically ignoring the full signal! :paranoid

My band has slipped and I have surgery on 8/28/07. I meet with the surgeon tomorrow. I had severe vomiting because of obstruction and severe pain. This has not been fun. I was not good about paying attention to the full sign.

I will keep you guys posted as to what is next.
