Recommended Posts

Anyone here from Oklahoma that would be willing to be a buddy of mine? I'm very new to this, I'm still deciding what and if this is right for me.

I'm from Oklahoma!! I'm still new at this also. I started looking into this in Feb & finally got approved w/ insurance in april. I changed surgeons in may due to new surgeon being in my insurance network. Now trying to wait patiently with new Dr. I have done all my requirements and keep checking back with them weekly to verify everything has been done. Just a couple of days ago when I called they assured me they were doing chart checks that day & we would know something soon. So I will call next week again if I don't hear from them. So hopefully I will be able to schedule this for August!!

Good luck to you!!!

I'm very curious about what insurance you have and how that's been working for you. I work for the State, so I've been trying to figure out if my insurance covers this or what I've got to do to get approved. Yay fellow Okie!

Of course, no prob! I have BCBSOK. They declined first because my BMI was 35 & they require it to be 40. But found out i have sleep apnea so with that Comorbidity we resubmitted & it was approved!!

I'm from Oklahoma too. I've just recently made the decision and am starting the process. I'll have to wait til January because right now I've got an extremely high deductible plan and need to switch plans for the new year.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
