I had gas pain in the first couple of days, especially in my left shoulder. I didn't have any ab pain or sore incisions, but I know some people do.

The pain really isn't that bad. Getting up and moving around really helps a lot, especially with any gas pain you might have or as @@JamieLogical mentioned above.

When I got home, I'd get up and walk a few times an hour or so, and it really helped. I found I didn't even need my pain meds 3 days after the surgery, but just used them to help me sleep. Day 5 post-op I was completely off my pain meds and getting a fairly good night's rest each night.

Don't overwork yourself or stress yourself at all, relax but move around, you'll be totally fine.

For me the only real stinging happened when I was getting up or sitting down but once standing or sitting it was almost nonexistent.

Just had my VSG yesterday. I was very pleasantly surprised at how little pain I experienced, especially considering I also had a hiatal hernia. I had no incision pain but a fair amount of gas pain, the intensity of which fluctuated throughout the day and night. Walking helped a LOT as did a couple dosages of Dilaudid and Zofran throughout the night. You may or may not feel up to walking when they tell you to start doing so but be sure to do it - the gas buildup will thank you.

Please read and take this seriously. I was on three pills for high blood pressure before I was sleeved. I continued taking my HighBP meds post-op and in about 3 or 4 days when I would stand up, I would get lightheaded and pass out on the floor. I went to my doctor who wanted me to go to the Emergency Room immediately. I had an appointment with my surgeon a few hours later that day and his office was right next door from a Hospital. On the HighBP meds my BP was 80/30. I asked him "How long will it be before I can stop taking my BP meds?". He said "Immediately after surgery". Mind you I'm single and live in my own condo. What if I had fallen and broke my neck? Everything about my life is changing. The Post-Op diet is basically eating better, period. I feel that the change will be wonderful with the proper nutrients and the right food. Today is 6_10_2016 and I took a day off from swimming. I am swimming 20 laps in a Olympic size pool. Unbelievable.

I had my sleeve on June 29 and have been surprised with what little pain goes with it. The first day home was rough, but I was only on pain medicine for two days.

It really varies by person. For two weeks my pain was pretty significant. I took liquid hydrocodone with tylenol. I went back to work two weeks out and took liquid tylenol. (Desk job.) At that point my pain was getting up, bending over, etc. At thirty days, the pain left. I didn't enjoy that aspect at all but at no time was it unbearable for me and it was very worth it. I'd do it over again in a heartbeat. Don't let it scare you away!

I am 4 days post op and feeling good. I barely take my painkillers - it is just the stinging of the incision points when I get up and down that are bugging me...but nothing crazy!

I struggled with nausea and was taking the meds to help that.

I walked and used hot Water bottles/heat packs to help shoulder tip pain.

I would keep on top of meds whilst in hospital and it helped a lot.

The main issue for me is not pain, it's just feeling seedy and not myself!

If I may offer advice, just fasten your seat belt and follow all the post-op instructions. I am about a little over and month and when I was cleared for swimming, I just made sure I swim every day. I got my first "Wow, you look different." I asked "In a good way or a bad way?". The answer was "A VERY good way." I am keeping the focus on exercise because weight loss is about diet and exercise. You're probably not feeling yourself because the new and improved version of you is coming out.

I didn't experience any real pain but did have some discomfort (mostly a sore/scratchy throat and some shoulder pain from the gas).

Just follow your post-op instructions, walk, and rest.

Same with me! I refused to leave the hospital until I didn't have severe pain....about day 4. I am on day 6 now and feel the same as you. Only thing is horrible insomnia.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
