Hello all. I had my bypass April 19th. It is no walk in the park but focus on your goal and keep in mind what your reason for doing this is. You will see that you will be glad you did this after you are a few weeks out. It takes quiet some adjusting but you can do it. I am close to 50 lbs lighter. So that is ????. Good luck and l will have a candle burning for you all ☺

Surgery went well! Finally coherent enough to type. No pain yet, but I had a morphine shot just before surgery. Been doing sips of Water since 7:00 in the evening.

Hey everyone! Surgery went very well. I have minor gas pains, but it's not intolerable at all. There's one incision that is a little more sore than the others, but again, my pain is never above a 4. I'm walking and using the restroom pretty easily so that's hopeful. I'm not sure if it's the ridiculous amount of pain killers I'm on that is keeping me comfortable, but I'm very surprised with how well I feel! I got to my room around 1:30 yesterday and just slept off and on most of the day. I ate a Popsicle over an hour or so and have been sipping Water and eating ice chips. The worst pain I've had has been a headache from not bringing my CPAP to sleep with

My doctor says I should be good to go home today, but I'm not 100% sure I want to. I mean yes, I want to be in my on home, but I have 2 little ones and it might be for the best that I take one more day here. After all, I've met my out-of-pocket max, so what's one more night?!

All-in-all, I'm in the 0% regret camp as of right now! Thanks for all the well wishes

My surgery was yesterday at 10. Everything went well. I had trouble waking up from the anesthesia. So I slept a lot. Pain was not bad all. I had what's called the Dr. Mccarty mini sleeve so there is only 2 small incisions, he takes the stomach out through your mouth like an EGD. Less down time. 2 incisions One in my belly button and one below my rib cage. I am in my hotel room and will be driving back home with my kids today. We are in Dallas and ready to get away from all this police shootings. I haven't had trouble drinking except for the very beginning. I couldn't leave the hospital until I passed my 8oz Water challenge. And as soon as got to my room drinking wasn't that big of a deal.

Awesome! What a cool surgery. I've never even heard about that. I'm in Houston, and I already feel the officer shootings are too close for comfort so I totally get it. So glad everything went well for you!

I'm hoping to do the McCarty mini sleeve too! I have a phone consult with him next Wednesday. (I'm in Oklahoma)

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
