I'm a month and 2 days post op today. I just got home from having my JP drain removed. I'm having some pain from it. It didn't hurt until the very end and since then my stomach is pretty tender and it hurts to move. Did anyone else experience pain after having the drain removed? If so, how long did it last? Am I just being a wuss or what? I've called my drs office, but haven't gotten a call back yet. Any feedback would be great! Thank you!

I had pain at my drain site for a couple of weeks post-op. It mostly hurt when I would move from side to side, like twisting my torso, or put weight on it, say by standing up/sitting down. It just eventually went away. Bracing the area, using an abdominal binder, and heating pads all helped. As did taking my pain meds, particularly at night. That really helped me sleep.< /p>

I may try a heating pad. I just can't wait for the pain to to away and to be able to eat more than 2 bites of anything without it hurting. I have to learn how to be patient I guess lol.

Hey now, you *had* the surgery to restrict your eating capacity! Believe me, at some point you will look back and wish you had the restriction you once had. Don't wish it away too soon ^_^

I had soreness at the sight of my drain and the Water from the shower really brought me to tears the first few days after it was out. It will pass, but just keep it covered during the day and you can use neosporin on it to keep it from getting infected and promote healing. My surgeon had me remove the bandage and allow water(not soap) to run down it daily. That was not fun for me, but it did heal up well. I almost can't even see the hole at 8 months out.

Mine developed an abscess. If you get a fever, call your doctor.

Why did you have it so long? I had mine 2 days. When they took mine out I cussed out loud. Way more discomfort and weirdness than I expected.

My Dr. opts to leave the drain in for two weeks in case of complication. I just so happened to develop an abscess at about the two week mark, so she wanted to leave it in to drain the infection. It was another two weeks before it was removed. I've had another infection develop from the drain being removed. I had to go in this past Wednesday to have it lanced and drained. Its not been fun. There are times I think I'd have been better off not having the surgery. I'd be able to eat or drink without pain or nausea a month and a half out. I wouldn't have developed two infections. I just hope things get back to a somewhat normal soon. I'm getting discouraged, but trying to see the light at the end of the tunnel.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
