I have pcos and I hadn't had a period in over a year prior to the surgery. I have had a period for every single month since the surgery. I used to eat out of boredom and I just replaced junk food with apple slices (1 month after surgery) and green tea with raisins and dates (6 months in to surgery).

When you get in to the habit of limiting your sugar intake, carbonated drinks end up grossing you out because of how overly sweet they taste after a while. You stick with being grossed out by that feeling and you will be over soft drinks in no time.

I took off for one week, and felt fine going back to work. I have a desk job, and my surgeon always indicated that one week was all the time I would need. I didn't have much pain or any issues after surgery so it was fine.
