Hello, everyone! I'm getting my sleeve surgery on the 20th and I would like to know what were some symptoms that you weren't told of that I could possibly be experiencing post-op? My doctor went through some common ones with me but some input from someone who has gone through the surgery would be valuable and much appreciated. Thank you for any and all information!

I barely had any pain. The worst part was the shoulder ache that didn't come until about a week later. It was a dull constant ache. I stopped taking my pain meds on the 2nd day.

I had surgery in the afternoon, and walked all night in the hospital. Walk around, as much as possible and it helps you recover faster and better.

I am eight days post op and by day four I could hardly tell I had surgery. It could be because I had the single incision procedure. I can get liquids down just fine so I have been very lucky.

I had a good experience overall. Pain was managed thru IV while one night in hospital and I walked a lot multiple times that night. Never had any nausea or gas pain. Slept sitting up partway once home. Had pain in belly getting in and out of bed and standing up that was gone in 5 days. No pain meds after 2 days. No issues getting liquids down.

Everyone will have their own experience. Hope yours goes well.

My pain was pretty bad through my hospital stay so I was having to have the pain med dispenser button thing. That helped a ton. I almost finished my pain meds that I took home but not quite. My incision sites were sore for about a month, but I had my lap band removed and was revised to the sleeve so that's probably why I hurt more.

My surgery was today. Overall the pain at the incision sites feel fine. It's the gas pain that is horrible. Just make sure you walk, take your Gas X strips, and drink Water and you will be fine.

I had nausea related to the lortab I was given. It made my first post op day pretty miserable. Day 2 was much better. One pain I didn't really understand was when I swallowed, I would get a a strong pain across my chest. I was given medicine for it which helped and it went away really quickly--maybe three days? Also I could only sleep sitting up for about 8-9 days. Other people said they could lay down pretty quickly but I just couldn't. All that said, I was feeling tremendously better just one week out.

The first week sucked and the second week sucked a little less. In the third week I began to feel myself again. I had a good deal of pain getting in and out of bed at first, plus a little bit of Constipation and then diarreah from over-treating the constipation ;-) I never actually vomited, but I did have some problems with nausea after eating, and at some level continue to have them - I know what it is though - you get full MUCH quicker and also your grace period of "just a few more bites" after you first start to feel full is also a lot smaller, and if you overeat/drink you're going to feel nauseous - so the cure is just to stop eating at the first sign of feeling full, even if you don't think you ate a lot or even if you're nearly done, just stop!

I had mine on Tuesday. The only real pain I'm dealing with is gas pains. I'm still adjusting to how much I can eat so sometimes I drift off and gulp something which causes some pain. I'm very careful after the first time I did that not to do it again. I can walk around fine, I've been doing things like small loads of laundry and some dishes. I plan to be just fine in a couple more days after the gas dissipates.

My doctor won't allow gas x and wants the gas to pass naturally so I have to wait for that. I've read a lot of people have success with gas x strips after surgery.

I think I was a little atypical in that I had no issues with nausea or getting fluids down. Pain lasted about two weeks, no pain pills week two. Depending on how the surgeon seals you up there may be some strange sensations as the incisions heal.

Make sure you are taking a softener or laxative, especially if you are leaning on the pain meds. If you're lucky you'll never have to Google fecal impaction. Seriously don't Google it.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.
