Sleepless in Katy. Seems I've conquered hanger on day 8 of the preop diet. 5 more days to surgery on the 3rd. Historically, I'd carb up. Fill my belly and go to bed in anticipation of the sugar coma. Life is less simple now. Any ideas on getting sleep when exercise doesn't help and food is purposefully limited?

I found out yesterday that insurance approved me. The dr said my surgery will be sometime in Aug. Looking forward to having some friends who are going thru same thing as I am.

@@Shrinkinqtpi I've been using OTC sleep aids. NyQuil ZZZZ helps me. I suffer from allergies as well so I take Benadryl when I need to. I've heard lavender essential oils are supposed to help as well.

@@WW0747 Thank you for the idea about NyQuill. I am a self-proclaimed queen of essential oils and have used lavender, vetiver, and frankincense in various combinations to no avail. It works on my husband! I have a CPAP and am happy with it. Allergies are a problem for me too so Benadryl is a real option. Thank you for the ideas.

I made it. Surgery went well. A little sore but otherwise feeling ok. Feels like I've done 1000 sit-ups. I didn't sleep well last night but hopefully I'll make up for it tonight.

Thank you. I appreciate it. I've been trying to consume a 10 calorie pack of Jello for two days. I think today I will be finished with it. Just an example of what it is like on day 2 post op. Water is going well. I think I will get in at least 60 oz. today. Meds are done for the day except another dose of Omeprazole. I also need to go by my local pharmacy so I can get help with the Lovenox shots. I bent the needle yesterday before use. FYI...don't take an Oxy and try to watch a video. Epic fail for me.

My surgeon did not require a liquid diet before the surgery. LOVE my surgeon. He made me so comfortable like I knew him for a long time. Very personable. His whole staff was the greatest. Even the staff at the hospital was great. I very thankful the insurance company made me change clinics.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
