Surgery in 24 hours - super nervous and questions too!

Recommended Posts

Hi all!

I can imagine that you all know how I am feeling, with surgery being in 24 hours!

Surgeon keeps repeating how much 'higher' risk I am as I am revising (even though it's been yearssss since I had my my band out) and that I could have a leak and die, and all these terrible things. It's his job to ensure I know what I am doing and I make an educated choice, but i am SO scared now.

I wanted to know if a) your surgeon found lots of scar tissue when you revised B) how long your surgery actually took and c)do you know of people who had leaks etc.

I am having afternoon surgery (boo hoo!) and wish that was not the case, as I will have allllllll day to stress.

I had my gastric sleeve op almost a year ago. I can remember feeling so scared and apprehension and the dread of arriving at the hospital. All went well for me and I am sure it will for you too. Sorry I can't help any further re soft tissue etc. wishing you a speedy recovery and let us know how you get on

How is it going?

My surgeon - ok well actually the residents who worked with my surgeon, as my surgeon is a man of few words -told me that I had a lot of scar tissue from the band removal a couple of years prior. They actually said that he has to spend a lot of time taking down adhesion from the banding to get the stomach to lie flat in order to do the sleeve. They were also not surprised that I experienced a lot of nausea and vomiting because they said that due to the scar tissue, my pouch was very small. I'm almost 3 months out and doing fine. But I have to say the sleeve was a bit of a rough surgery for me. Taking my band out was a piece of cake.

Hi there!

I too had average scarring/adhesion from the band, but nothing too horrible apparently.

I had pretty bad nausea the last couple of days but last night was my first at home and I had panadol at 8.30pm then basically slept until 6am. I then took panadol at 6.30isham but just to prevent any uncomfortable-ness.

Feeling like i can stomach a bit more liquid.

How are you going now that it's been a few months? I am so nervous - I know that the sleeve will be way different, but at this early stage it feels so 'bandish' ahhhh lol

Yes I was worried at first that it was going to be just like the band. But at almost 3 months it is so different than the band. I can eat small amounts of anything. I have zero hunger and zero cravings - with the band it seemed like I was always so hungry and craved sweets. I've lost 40 pounds. :-)

I felt pretty crummy for a couple of weeks - it took me longer to get my energy back than I expected. So don't get discouraged! You'll do great and you're going to love the sleeve once it settles down!

Thanks! This so reasurring! I'm scheduled for Band to Sleeve revision next month and I know I can do it but it will be so much easier without the cravings and the hunger!
