So I have to attend a dinner with my family Saturday I didn't want to be the only one there not eating do you think it'd be ok to eat a grilled chicken salad 9 days after my surgery ? Has any one eaten anything and has consequences?

At 9 days out I was still on liquids. Why not order Soup? That can be a good choice at most restaurants. You can also call ahead to see what they have if you are unsure.

Day 3 and I was on puréed Protein. Be very very careful with chicken. I eat it, but it needs moisture, like mayo. If it's not chewed very well, it will get stuck and hurt like hell. Then you'll probably throw it up. If Soup is an option, that might work better.

Truth is, you're going to be the only one not eating for a while. Even once you're on a regular diet you still will be eating smaller amounts than everyone else. I was really uncomfortable with this at first. I'd end up taking most of my meal home and feel like I'd offended the chef because of how little I ate.

If you're going to a restaurant, order Soup. If it's a family dinner at home, bring food with you. The pain you can experience from eating foods too early isn't worth it!

Due to my job I deal with a lot of chefs and I know they will send out a good Chilean sea bass with fave Beans (in a small portion) but my plan is to eat off my husbands plate if we go out to dinner. If he orders steak (when I am at that stage of course) then I will take a couple ounces for myself.

I went to a restaurant this last week with my family and I explained to the waitress that I had a surgery and would she mind bringing two plate so I could share my daughters salad, I could only fit in about 3 bites but I'm 6 weeks post surgery at 9 days post surgery I could of never eatin anything like I did, I was still on Clear Liquids too. Some restaurants if you ask they will purée their Soup for you. But you won't be able to eat more then 3 TBS so be prepared to take some home :)

At 9 days post op I was still on pureed foods. Soup is probably your best bet. Moving to a regular diet too quickly is probably going to make you feel pretty bad, and you could end up vomiting or having a food bolus that you can't pass. The advice of having some soup pureed would work, and most restaurants have a smaller cup portion vs. a large bowl that you can order.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
