I'm 8 days post op. Since coming home I've had some big issues with gurgling and very runny stools. It's about once a day that a session begins about 4 hours after I've had my Protein shake. I will be gurgling and volcanic for about an hour. Take immodium. Drink Water then be fine until 4 hours after my Bariatric Pal shake or Soup.

I've had loose stools all my life.

Is this ok at this point? I'm taking Probiotics and Vitamins from Bariatric Pal. I don't take any lactose products.

Tips or recommendations?

Tom

I had diarrhea in the beginning because I became lactose intolerant after surgery. Some Protein shakes contain lactose. But my diarrhea began almost immediately after consuming milk, not 4 hours later.

If you consume too much sugar or fats after RNY surgery it can cause diarrhea because your stomach no longer processes these and dumps them into your intestines which don't know what to do with them - therefore diarrhea.

One other thought. Decades ago, I was overseas and had a bad case of diarrhea. No access to medicine. I used bananas to control the diarrhea.

When I began using Protein shakes, I found they tasted terrible, so to improve the taste I blended in a half a banana into each shake. I did this to improve the taste. But it may also have added the benefit to the problem you are experiencing.

Sounds somewhat normal to have a few issues. I would not take Imodium unless Dr told you but I am sure you are following their advice. I became lactose intolerant 7 days out but now I avoid milk and can add some other dairy in as i am on soft foods.

After my surgery, my stomach didn't gurgle and I didn't have diarrhea until February (had my surgery in September). My stomach started to gurgle in march after I had certain foods.

I find that I get gurgle and then diarrhea after eating certain things like bread or beef, sometimes fish and fruits. So I only have a little bit of those things and drink more Protein shakes to replace the beef and eat chicken to help with the Protein as well.

I think our bodies all can and cannot tolerate different things. I would suggest keeping a food journal and write down what gives you the gurgles and diarrhea and then do process of elimination and stop eating what is causing the diarrhea.

Have you talked to your surgeon about it?

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.

Neat you have a pic of this day! I was sooo happy to get my surgery. It was well worth it! And I'm not even near my goal. I had surgery Dec. 2!
