Mush vs. Puree

Recommended Posts

Does anyone understand the difference? Are mushies one and the same as purees? I assumed that they were since I was never told anything about the mushy only from "puree" right to solids. My puree diet includes fish mashed with fork.

Thanks in advance for info.

I'd say they're basically the same thing. The concept is that you don't want your stomach to have to churn very much to get the food digested during the healing stage. So, if you aren't having any trouble getting down what you are eating then you are probably OK. I, for one, could not stomach putting real food in the blender so I did similar to you and broke up the food as much as possible and made out just fine. Just be careful, chew a lot and eat SLOWLY!

Yes, they're the same...at least according to my dietician. And LapBandit is right. Our stomachs need to form the adhesions that are gonna hold our bands in place for life. When we chew, the stomach starts to churn even before food reaches it. So, the liquid and mushy/puree phases allow our scar tissue/adhesions to form.

Hope this helps! We wish you the best!

According to my post op plan, I have Clear Liquids for 2 days, full liquids for 10 days, puree for 7 days then mushy for 7 days then soft for 7 days then food.

The difference between puree and mushy is the difference between baby food and toddler food in the jars at the grocery store. Soft food is something you can eat with a toothache, such as Pasta, quiche, shephards pie.
