Help! I think I ate raw carrots way too soon...

Recommended Posts

Hello!

I am just over 2 weeks post op and ate some raw carrots, I chewed them up and had no problem, in fact I was pretty proud of managing to eat something but my mother came to me in a panic stating that I could cause a leak and I shouldn't of done it, I am now panicking and have tried to contact my emergency nurse's number, but no one is answering.

I feel very ignorant for not knowing the no raw veggies rule and I feel very panicked after my mum's distress, would anyone be able to guide me in what I should do or what happened to them if they ate raw veggies too early?

Thank you in advance!

How much did you eat?? I don't think it should be a problem unless you are to the point where your new pouch is being forced to stretch but don't eat raw vegetables as of yet. You may have pain in your stomach later though. I would stop eating anything solid for a couple of hours or anything at all unless I was very hungry.

Let us know how it goes..

English is my 6th language so forgive me if my sentences don't make any sense at times!

There's really nothing you can do once you've already ate it.......just make sure not to eat more and study your food guidelines so you'll be sure not to make another mistake.

You won't cause a leak with a carrot, especially if you chewed it up nice. Just avoid it for a few more weeks, definitely lower on the list of suggested foods for two weeks post.

Follow your post diet plan. If you don't have one from your nutritionist, there are reputable sources on the internet.

Raw carrots and foods like steaks, etc., can be consumed at a later phase.

Don't beat yourself up for it.

Wow. I can't believe that your surgeon left you without a nutritionist or at least a written program on how to progress through the stages of introducing your new tummy to the healing process. My program did not have me approach raw foods of any kind for three months.

I agree that if you don't have any guidelines - get some. Here are two:

https://www.nlm.nih.gov/medlineplus/ency/patientinstructions/000173.htm

I wish you the best. Your new tummy is the boss of you.

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.

Neat you have a pic of this day! I was sooo happy to get my surgery. It was well worth it! And I'm not even near my goal. I had surgery Dec. 2!
