Surgery date is July 6 (omg so close!!) definitely feeling nervous but mentally ready! I have never had any procedures requiring anesthesia.. However, last Wednesday I was "put under" for my EGD and do not remember a thing (thank goodness).. I am unsure on what to expect as the BIG DAY approaches.. I have Cigna however I had to pay 6k out of pocket for this procedure and the dr I am with offered to have the surgery as a outpatient procedure. Kinda freaking out about that Considering its summer and have 3 kiddos at home ALL DAY.. Any advise would be appreciated!!

Oooh, I don't know. I had 2 nights in the hospital post-op, and I don't think I could've handled little ones those first two days. My first day was a lot rougher than most people seemed to describe on here. It wasn't as easy-breezy for me. I had a lot of pain and they had to keep giving me pain meds through my IV to manage it. That didn't subside until 2 days after. Everyone is different though, but after being really surprised by that, my best advice is plan for the worst, hope for the best.

@@marissaNavarro75052 do you have someone else at home besides the kids? outpatient is not unusual, but you won't be able to lift a lot and idk how young your children are so unless you have someone to help it would be hard.

I had an uneventful surgery and no pain.

NO REGRETS!

I'm freaking out about the anesthesia as well. My procedure is outpatient as well. But my Dr. does his through the mouth and there is only 2 small incisions and he brings the stomach out through the mouth so there is less recovery.

Luckily my husband has requested 2 weeks off to help manage the household while I am down and out.. I'm really hoping that helps some..

Thank you for your response

@@MissKay my BFF had the same experience she stayed a 2nd night due to some extra pain and 3 kids at home she wasn't quite ready for the chaos at home. I don't blame her one bit! Mine are at their grandmas house until about a week after my surgery (d-day is tomorrow 7/5). So I'm lucky and I hate hospitals so the sooner I can come home the better.

I've been put under numerous times and for me, its the best part of surgery, although I do expect this one to be the hardest. They will give you something to relax, then tell you count backwards, or goodnight and the next thing you know they are waking you up and hour or two later, but it felt like just a minute ago you went to sleep. Some patients are pretty groggy and take a while to wake up, other feel nauseous.

Regardless of what type of surgery, I'm sure you won't be able to take care of the kids for a couple of days. You need to take care of yourself.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
