C25k. Keeping myself honest

Recommended Posts

W5D1 completed... felt like the first four weeks were heavy on the cardio training, and these next four weeks will enter the mental training phase. By that I mean knowing you will be running the same thing three days in a week is a little less mentally daunting then knowing you will be increasing your running distances each day from here on out. Physically, I can handle the running as long as I'm focused on my pace and breathing... mental training engage!

So, I am on W4 D3 and it is going a lot better than I expected. Here is my question. Does everyone here stick by the 3 day a week plan? I am thinking of increasing to 5 days I am enjoying it so much.

I've been sticking to it just to give myself rest and recovery in between runs. I have considered adding strength training between run days as I think that will be more beneficial then adding runs.

What I have been doing is weight training Mon, Wed, Fri and C25K Sun, Tue, Thurs with Sat as my rest day. I would like to do cardio 5 days a week and I much prefer running outside to an elliptical or treadmill. I think I'm going to give it a go.

I did every other day, so my "weeks" were a little shorter that way. On my "off" days, I would rotate between extra cardio through biking, strength training, and rest days.

I have not. I want to make sure I can finish this program and run 5K my own before trying it in front of witnesses LOL.

Good luck! You are doing so well by the time Oct gets here you will be able to do it backwards.

Hi all! Sorry to go Mia for awhile. I got sick after a trip then went to my dad's for his birthday. Everyone is doing so well. I am back in the groove and I am pleased to say I did the 20 minute run today! Goooo me! I feel super awesome. The 5 k is a few weeks away so I need to step it up!

I did the 8 minute day with my nephew last week and I told him I was afraid of the 20 minute day and he said his advice was to try it and go for as long as I could. And if it wasn't 20, to try again next time until I accomplished it. I am glad I took his advice.

Also this is pretty exciting. One of the reasons i did the surgery was for my blood pressure. I ran 170/110 without meds and 145/99 with meds for 15 years. I stopped my meds after surgery and have been improving. I still always showed pre hypertensive. Not today! Look at this bad boy!post-286600-14709612777515_thumb.jpg

The horror!! I just found out we don't get a medal for finishing the 5k I. September. I ordered one for myself! I finished week 6 day 2. It was 2 10 minutes and it felt harder than the 20. Probably because I did it so soon. I feel very sore. I also ran faster than I normally do. I know it is slow (I was supposed to do a 10 minute mile) and I did 13 minute miles. I will take that!

Here is my medal. I hope to post a picture of me at the end of the 5 k with it around my neck if I am able to finish. post-286600-14710541445575_thumb.jpg

Keep up the good work everyone!! You all inspire me!

Haha! I love that you ordered your own medal. You deserve it! Most of the races I've done didn't have medals, just t-shirts.

W5D3 done! FU€|< YEAH! Sorry, just big mental hurdle to jump. I did W5D2 on Thurs, so should have done D3 over the weekend but kept making excuses. Finally bit the bullet. Pace felt good, fastest mile was 11 min so I'm pacing in around 11-12 mins and feel like I can keep that up for a full 3 miles. I'd love to get that down to sub 10 min/mile pace by October, but I'm just going to be happy being able to run an entire 5k.

Wow!! I am impressed. An 11 minute mile!! I was just about to post how excited I was for my 12:25 minute mile. Just got home from w7d1 which is 25 minutes or 2.5 miles. I started off saying I will do the 2.5 miles. And did 2.02 in the 25 minutes. I was exhausted but I felt good. I think I got too hot. I still feel hot. @@goblue9280 do you feel amazed every time you go further or longer? I just keep wondering who this girl is who is accomplishing this.

As for the medal, it arrived today and it is glorious. I found out most races don't do participation medals I thought we didn't get a shirt either. But I found out we do get a shirt so that is cool! But I am still gonna wear the medal! Hahahaha

@@goplay94123 yes, it's an amazing feeling every week! This really was the first day though where I can now see myself running a full 5k. I've also noticed my stamina has increased incredibly during hockey... still haven't seen any speed increases (need strength training and sprints for that) but it's nice to not be dead in the 3rd period. My stamina has also improved dramatically in uhhhh other areas.

I love the medal idea... I think I'm going to get myself something special to mark the accomplishment as well.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
