Surgery Date was 6/27-6 Days Out

Recommended Posts

Hello out there everyone! I've enjoyed reading all of the posts. The tips are great and the encouragement is priceless! Thank you and please keep sharing.

Anyone else have gastric bypass on 6/27? I'm struggling with the gas/bloated feeling and pain. Anyone else have this issue? I'm walking, getting in my fluids, Protein, Vitamins and meds with no problems.

Any advice?

Hi there!! I also had gastric bypass on 6/27. I'm also struggling with gas and abdominal pain. My doc only wants me to focus on liquids. When I see him on Wednesday, he's going to remove the drain which I'm hoping will help with the pain. Then he wants me to focus on Protein and Vitamins. I'm glad he took the pressure off for the first week to just let me focus on hydration. I'm having a really hard time walking due to the pain.

Welcome. I had RNY gastric bypass over 3 years ago. The following article describes my experience. http://www.breadandbutterscience.com/Surgery.pdf Walking is the best way to deal with gas.

Hello. I also had surgery on 6/27. I had a lot of pain as well but walking around was literally the best! I'm so so over liquids and I'm ready and hoping that my surgeon clears me to start soft foods on my first follow up appointment on Tuesday.

Hi all. I had surgery on 6/29. Same here lots of gas pain. Walking has helped a lot. Although my Dr did not recommend say some folks using Gas x strips on YouTube. I broke down and tried 1 and it did help.Maybe ask you surgeon about that.

Hello,

I had my surgery on 6/27. All seems to be going pretty well. Most of my pain has gone. But...I have this pain on the left side of my belly...it is an intense burning that goes away when I lay down. It gets very intense, even with meds, when I lean forward and especailly if I am leaning forward to pick something up or to wipe myself. But it is strong enough that it is hard to concentrate on anything even if I am just sitting up straight? Has anyone else experienced anything like this? This has been gettting a little worse each day for the last three or four days. Other than that I feel pretty terrific.

I have my follow up with my surgeon today. But any thoughts or experience are definitely appreciated.

Thank you everyone for your information and support. James, I especially appreciated reading your story and the recipes!

As of this morning I am down 8lbs. One of my husband's favorite sayings is, "Inch by inch, life is a cinch", so I am going just be with the 8lbs in 8 days.

I also had less pain last night and slept better. I still hurt in the area where my doctor fixed a hernia that I had; but he told me that I will hurt there for a while.

I see my doctor on 6/15 so hopefully he will clear me to start swimming again. I know that this will also help with the weight loss.

I had RNY Apr-13. No pain and didn't experience gas and I did not have a drain. I did feel terribly uncomfortable trying to get Protein drinks in. But that is all in the past. My only complaint is I feel like I should have more energy since I've lost 38lbs since procedure. I haven't been able to do lots of walking (excise choice) since I have a very painful sciatica (going to PT). My surgeon and primary tells me I need to be patient up to 6 months post-op for energy to increase. I'm so happy I made this choice!!!

I've been having the exact same issue. I'm 8 days post op RNY. I planned to address this at my 1st post op visit (tomorrow) too.

My surgeon said it is likely some nerve pain. He gave me some more pain meds and recommended trying cold or warm compresses. He said it will go away. He definitely was not worried. Let me know what your surgeon says.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
