Meal Planning and Prepping

Recommended Posts

So I'm nearly 8 months post op and I haven't been as successful as I'd like to be. I'm now working more closely with my NUT and trying to get on track. One of the things she is adamant about is meal prepping and planning. I'm not very good with all of this, but practice make perfect.

Any suggestions on how you may plan and prep? What has been successful for you? Do you prep for every meal?

one thing I do is on the weekend I typically pre-prepare a bunch of Protein. chicken breasts, ground sirloin and ground turkey blend, etc. sometimes I make ahead touch down taco dip and then divide it in to servings.

I measure out some Snacks that are almonds, dried cherries and a couple of chocolate chips. I pre-prepare Snacks of cottage cheese or ham with swiss and asparagus roll ups. so they are grab and go in the fridge for during the week.

I fix my work lunches with the prepared Proteins. the ones I listed are cooked with garlic salt and pepper and are versatile. I can add salsa, or spag sauce or mexican seasonings.

The rest of the Protein goes in the fridge for dinners and then it is a simple thing to prepare an easy meal that fits with my calories/protein goals in the evening when I don't even want to do anything at all.

Christinamo. I don't understand. Do you cook all these in advance? Or is the meat raw for later cooking? And are they ok in the fridge for 5 or 7 days? And what is 'touch down taco dip?' And what about the bad breath/body odour that comes from garlic salt, how much/little are you using? Do you add any vegetables?

For the past two weeks, I've done some good prepping. I've cooked to big meals and portioned them out for the week. If it doesn't look like I will be eating them for some reason, I'll stick them in the freezer. I haven't stuck with my meal plan 100%, but I'm getting better at it. Thanks for the advice!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
