Well I was approved and should be getting my date soon but I'm so scared I'm 27 and I've never had surgery don't get me wrong I'm very excited but at the same time I'm scared that I won't wake up and I'm scared of blood clots I asked my surgeon about it and all he said was that it's rare anyways is being this scared normal ?

It really is normal, and understandable. But the truth is, you are reducing your risk of death significantly -- by 90% -- by choosing to have bariatric surgery. Surgery does pose risks, but they pale in comparison to the risk of death from being morbidly obese. The surgery risk is just grabbing your attention right now because it is looming so close. But you are giving yourself the absolute best chance of life by choosing it, as scary as it seems. So, try to focus less on the risks of surgery and more on what your life can be like afterwards.

I agree 100%.

It was my first surgery, too but after going through it and seeing my results so far, I'd do it again in a heartbeat.

The biggest risks of surgery according to my surgeon are pneumonia and blood clots. Your surgeon is well aware of those risks and will do everything he can to minimize them. Your job is to do everything you are asked to do and follow his instructions to the letter --- even if you don't think you can do it or think it is silly. For instance, they will have you up and walking very soon after surgery. You may not think you can do it but you can, and it will really help you feel better and avoid blood clots.

You can do it!

It's normal. It would be weird if you weren't a bit nervous.

At 34, it was my first surgery too so it's a of fear of the unknown. You have your age on your side (which typically means a quicker recovery) and remind yourself that you're giving your future-self a wonderful gift. You're on your way to being happier, healthier and look the way you've wanted to.

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.
