this has been a difficult week going back to work and all. I remain heartbroken and just trying to do the things I need to do.

@@Christinamo7,

I am so sorry for your loss. I know that is woefully inadequate, but I don’t really know what else to say.

In such stressful times, I try to shift my health efforts from “great” to “do no damage.” I have enough else to worry about, and am afraid if I put too much pressure on myself to keep my healthy habits up perfectly, I will reach a failure point and fail at that and at everything else going on in my life. So, I just try to “do no damage.” For you at this point, I would say maybe focus on not eating too much comfort food and convenience food (which I bet are easier than healthy foods to locate now when everything’s so stressful), and maybe focus on not gaining weight rather than worry about weight loss. The weight loss can come back when you are not so overwhelmed and have the capacity to deal with it.

I am so sorry, and I hope you get through this rough time okay.

@@Alex Brecher the first week when I was home, and when I go back to visit Mama in a couple of weeks I will just eat whatever is presented to me, trying to make my best choices from that. Mom doesn't need to worry about a special diet for me right now. Thankfully at almost 5 months, going to Protein first is pretty automatic, plus I feel better that way. Comfort food hasn't been a problem so far. Trying to drink enough and get enough Protein has been, although hard as it has been to go back to work it helps me fall into small meal/snacks habits and that I am doing better on those days. I am a stress cleaner - but I am also finding I get very fatigued. Grieving takes a tremendous toll and drains you. sleeping a good long time, but apparently not sleeping particularly well. I just have to give myself permission to back off the workouts a little bit for now and so I have given myself leave to not track my exercise until September, although I am still trying to walk some each day. having a hard time getting back to my yoga, even though I *know* it will help me. I am sad, and I just want to curl up when I am home. It's just something you have to go through I suppose. This site has been so helpful to me in terms of having peers who have also been through really rough Patches in their first year after surgery - they have helped me so much. I hope that by sharing here, someone else, at some point might also feel less alone when something happens to knock them down on their journey.

@@krazy kat *hugs* backatcha.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
