Caffeine is a diuretic and it absolutely will dehydrate you. Even when I was cleared for caffeine at 9 weeks my tummy didn't tolerate it very well. I could only do tea, not coffee, and even then had to dilute it with a vanilla Protein Shake.

Just what ever you do, don't drink your caffeinated beverage with a straw. Not because if it is hot it will burn your mouth or the drawing of air, but because if you post it here, OMG, a s### storm will happen! :)

I was off pre op, but wasn't given any restrictions post op. I was warned that it could irritate my pouch, so I waited three months.

As long as you stay away from heavy cream and sugar, calories should be minimal. I do a medium iced coffee at Dunkin with milk and splenda. It's about 40-50 calories.

Used to be about a 3+ cup a day coffee drinker pretty much daily. All types - dark, blonde, Columbian, etc. and the only type that would upset my stomach was Starbucks Breakfast Blend. Post surgery, it's the other way around. Finding that more types of coffee upset my stomach than don't.

Just this week (one month post op) however, I've found a blend that does wonders. I drink just one small cup per day with very little cream and about a teaspoon of sugar and as long as I drink it over about a 30 minute timeframe, gives me exactly what I need bright and early. :)

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
