Frequently nauseous in the morning...

Recommended Posts

So it seems like ever since surgery I'm often nauseous in the morning - I wake up feeling -really- yucky. Usually a combination of eating something small and mild (i.e. a slice of cheese ) and drinking + 2-3 hours of time helps.. I'm not sure it's just needing to eat and drink though because I don't feel better right after.. I keep feeling sick for 2-3 hours whether I eat or don't eat.. then later in the day it begins to wear off and I feel normal again.. (And no. no chance I'm pregnant lol not possible.) Have any of you experienced this or does anyone have an idea what might be causing it?

Good morning! I am 12 days post op for the RNY. I definitely experience the morning sickness like nausea in the mornings as well. It's the only time I feel like that. If you find a way to get rid of it please let me know! It definitely makes it tough getting up for work in the morning!

Are you taking your Vitamins in the morning? I find that some Vitamins make me very queasy, especially if I take them without a full meal (or at least as full as we eat now!). This would last for several hours then wear off -- your description definitely reminded me of this except I didn't feel bad upon waking. It had been my habit to take my vitamins right away though so I would start feeling poorly within half an hour of waking.

I noticed this pattern years ago and started taking my vitamins just before I eat dinner (I've never been a big Breakfast eater) and no longer have a problem. After my VSG I was using chewable Centrum vitamins and found I had the same problem -- perhaps I was absorbing them too rapidly after chewing. So I'm back to swallowing pills before dinner.< /p>

Nope..not that I don't think.. I take my depression/anxiety/bipolar/ Constipation cocktail in the morning and my bc/anxiety again/vitamins in the evening with food.

What are you taking for the nausea. Might I recommend zofran?

@@FocusOnMeNow - You might indeed! I love zofran. I haven't been taking anything for the nausea.. but I'm kind of wondering if I should be... it's very bothersome and it often sticks around for hours making it hard to eat and drink properly during the day because well.. who wants to eat when they feel like they're gonna toss their Cookies at any minute. I see the NUT on Friday and I'll ask her if she either has any suggestions or can ask the doc if I should consider taking some zofran on mornings I feel nasty.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
