Am I hungry? What does hunger feel like again?

Recommended Posts

Hello!

I am 5 months out, and 55 lbs down.

This past week I've been feeling... hungry?

I don't know if it's actual hunger or head hunger?

But I'm craving food unlike how I have craved food before... and I feel kind of an emptiness in my esophagus.

I know that after getting sleeves we no longer make the hunger hormone... so we shouldn't be feeling hungry.

I don't even remember what actual hunger feels like, especially since I got head hungry a lot before surgery.

However, on this forum I have read that hunger comes back to people after some time.

What is everyone else's experience with this? Is what I am feeling actual hunger?

Has anyone else's hunger returned?

It took a long time, but actual physical hunger did return for me. It takes a lot less food now to satisfy that physical hunger which is a very good thing. I keep a variety of healthy Snacks available so I have something readily handy if it's not time for a meal yet; especially while at work.

Unfortunately, the head "hunger" returned, too, and is a difficult beast to fight. Do your best to not let old bad habits creep back into your lifestyle. Do as much as you can to develop good eating and exercise habits early on so that it is all first nature as time goes by.

Our new tummies are a tool, not miracle workers.

I just finished reading this article and felt it worthy of passing along.

I'm in my third week, and I definitely do feel physical hunger. Which is good - it reminds me to eat something!

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
