Has anyone tried any sweeteners besides Splenda two weeks post op? I'd like to try this in coffee, but don't know if I should. Haven't asked my NUT yet.

That is a splenda based sweetner, so if you use Splenda that should be fine.

I don't use anything with Splenda,

I use stevia and I want to work on eliminating that from my diet over the next few months.

I don't know much about stevia @@OutsideMatchInside I'll look into it. Sounds like Splenda isn't too good for you huh.

I miss drinking coffee and this is flavored. Figured it will help lol.

I have been using Stevia in the Raw for quite some time (I'm pre-op, but I've been using it for a year) and like it for coffee. I wouldn't try to bake with it. I also use the Torani sugar free syrups for sweetening and flavor in coffee, iced tea and other drinks. They have Splenda as their sweetener.

Remember there are only a few true stevia products out there. Sweet leaf is an example. Trivia and nuvia are chemically altered and have other things added. I find the sugar free syrups disappointing. But I've also always been able to taste the chemicals.

I couldn't tolerate artificial sweeteners at all postop. I just used real sugar, Monk Fruit, and honey. Also drank diluted fruit juices and regular sports drinks. Used regular Torani syrups to flavor plain Greek yogurt and Protein Shakes. None of this impeded my weight loss, but of course I wasn't going gangbusters on high calorie Starbucks drinks or fruit smoothies, either. Besides the real thing, I will use stevia when cooking, and some of my Protein supplements do contain stevia and/or erythritol.

@@Kindle Thank you Kindle for speaking up. I have believed for a long time that if you have to have something sweet, it needs to be the real thing. If not for becoming sick repeatedly over the past couple of years, I could do it on my own. But when allergies put me in bed for 16-18 hours a day weight loss is halted and survival is the goal. Artificial sweeteners made things worse by inspiring Migraines. If I have to have something sweet, then it is most likely going to be a piece of fruit or Sweet Leaf sweetened tea. I cannot say enough about Sweet Leaf. it is amazing.

I definitely use less sugar free/fat free type of foods these days. Mostly because my portions are so small, I can just enjoy the real thing in moderation.

Stevia is a safe and delicious alternative sweetener. Splenda and the other artificial sweeteners are not good for us. Please research all products that contain artificial sweeteners before buying. I use a chocolate flavored liquid stevia in my coffee. It's made by NOW foods and is amazing. I buy it from Amazon and get 6 bottles at a time. With a little half and half in my coffee, it rivals anything I could get in Starbucks!!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
