Waiting... still waiting...

Recommended Posts

I went through my surgeon to get my approval. I went to a few seminars and met him prior to my 1st visit and I felt comfortable with him. My insurance required me to go through 5 months of meeting with a dietician and my surgeon and/or nurse practioner. After everything was completed and I met the requirements, my info was sent to my insurance. They took forever to approve me BUT I finally got approved after 5 weeks of waiting.

I am a newbie, I just got my primary care physician to put my referral in for vgs on June 30th.

So when you say approved are you talking about the approval from your pcp or from the surgeons submission after you get all your test done?

I mean the approval to have the surgery from my insurance

Ur so lucky!!! I'm completely jealous, and still so happy for all yall. I was hoping to have my surgery by the end of july, but I will only be meeting my surgeon for the first time then and on top of that he will require me to lose so many lbs before he will consider surgery. So maybe by the end of august? Gl to all of you!!!

That's awesome! I was actually hoping for the July 20, but my coordinator got me pretty darn close - just a week later. My coordinator is male, young, and quite attractive

Only a letter!! That's awesome, my insurance required 6 months of visits with a dietician, clearances from psyc, GI, pulmonologist, cardiologist, blood work, ekg, chest xray ... My surgery is scheduled for 7-21 and I started my liquid diet today.

Best of luck!

God bless ya!

After seeing the doctor he said I was a perfect candidate for the surgery. BMI was 39 and no major health issue. So I did the 6 month supervised diet. Lost some weight and got my BMI down to 35. Insurance denied me :( because I had no major health issues. Spoke with the Dr again and he said he would do the surgery out of pocket. Ugh who can afford that??? Started to gain some weight back and decided to go to Mexico to get my surgery done. Monday the 11th is surgery day. Excited that its finally here after jumping through so many hoops for soooo long.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
