I had my surgery on Monday, June 27, 2016, I had a vertical sleeve gastrectomy. I'm not going to lie I regretted having surgery for the first few days, once I passed my barium swallow test I noticed that I was able to get liquids down no problem, yesterday my third day postop I was able to get in a matter of 24 hours 60 Fluid ounces without cramping, Jell-O so far Has been the only thing that hurt to swallow. I'm just worried that if I continue to get 60 ounces and I will stretch out my stomach or pop a suture. I'm just worried that if I continue to get 60 ounces and I will stretch out my stomach or pop a suture. I don't know when to tell when my Cut off limit is. When I'm drinking fluids I don't get nauseous I don't feel like I'm going to puke and I don't get cramping so how do I know when to stop to pace myself

They say you don't feel the restriction with liquids bc they empty out so quickly. You can drink too much and have it come up but I think restriction happens when you advance to purée

Just sip slowly all day. If the Jello felt uncomfortable, try again in a few days. As long as you are getting your protien and liquids you are good. You won't stretch your stomach.

Was your swallow test live? Did you watch it? If you did you saw that the liquids pass right through like sand in the hourglass. You can't stretch your sleeve with liquids. The Jello might be bothering you because of the temp. Right after surgery I could only have warm things or room temp, then it got better and I could drink cold things.

Yup I watched! And that barium swallow solution was so gross, I was terrified to take my first sip!

It didn't taste that bad to me, I was so desperate to drink anything, I didn't even care.

Also had my surgery 6/27. I found walking and cutting down on pain meds helped me the most. Felt so good we went 3 hours out of town to Ruidoso for 2 days. Don't stress about Water. I find the premium Protein shakes are easy to drink for me and my pills go down easier if I take them with it than Water. Try drinking water different ways. I found it easier to drink from a water bottle than from a cup. Good luck.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
