Two weeks out and not losing

Recommended Posts

I am new to this forum and had my surgery on June 16. The first week I lost about 7 lbs. I am stuck and have lost nothing for almost a week. Is this normal? I am drinking Water, Protein shakes and I had an egg a couple of mornings. I started the pureed diet last Sunday but for the most part I am still using the Protein Shakes to get the most Protein possible. What am I doing wrong?

I drink about 1 1/2 shakes which is about 18oz (45 g protein) a day and at least 50 oz of Water.

There's something called the three week stall. Heard about it on other forums. Keep doing what your doing and it will happen.

That could be the issue. You need more Protein and water. Try adding Protein Powder to broth or non-caloric drinks. Have sugar free popsicles, sugar free Jello, infused water, protein water, etc. If you do that - you should start to lose faster. Good luck!

Thank you. I am trying to have as much Protein as possible but I am just always full. I will try the pops and add Jello again hope it helps a little at least getting very discouraged.

@@Maggie/2 hey! I'm having the same problem!! I'm out 2 weeks tomorrow and am at a stall and not losing any more..

I've lost 8 lb since surgery on 6/20. But I've been at this same weight for like a week.. I don't understand either.. I drink two Protein shakes a day, Water, and always eat like some yogurt or Popsicle or something also.. Not losing..

You really need to do everything you can to get in all of your Protein and fluids. It is hard, but you can do it.

I wonder how long this stall will last. I will be three weeks post op and I have not lost any weight in two weeks. I try very hard to get as much Protein and fluids as possible.

There is really no way to predict how long it will last. I HIGHLY recommend you stay off the scale. Especially until you are able to reliably reach your Fluid and Protein targets. Your primary goal right now is healing. The weight loss will come. You need enough protein and fluids for both healing and weight loss.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
